Stochastic \({p}\)th Root Approximation of a Stochastic Matrix: A Riemannian Optimization Approach
We propose two approaches, based on Riemannian optimization, for computing a stochastic approximation of the $p$th root of a stochastic matrix $A$. In the first approach, the approximation is found in the Riemannian manifold of positive stochastic matrices.

Row Stochastic Matrices and Linear Preservers of Matrix Majorization $T:\mathbb{R}_{m} \rightarrow \mathbb{R}_{n}$ [PDF]
A nonnegative square and real matrix $R$ is a row stochastic matrix if the sum of the entries of each row is equal to one. Let $x$, $y \in \mathbb{R}_{n}$.

Stochastic Conditioning of Matrix Functions [PDF]
We investigate the sensitivity of matrix functions to random noise in their input. We propose the notion of a stochastic condition number, which determines, to first order, the sensitivity of a matrix function to random noise. We derive an upper bound on the stochastic condition number that can be estimated efficiently by using “small-sample ...

Stochastic Matrix Product States [PDF]
The concept of stochastic matrix product states is introduced and a natural form for the states is derived. This allows to define the analogue of Schmidt coefficients for steady states of non-equilibrium stochastic processes. We discuss a new measure for correlations which is analogous to the entanglement entropy, the entropy cost $S_C$, and show that ...

Matrix Analysis for Continuous-Time Markov Chains
Continuous-time Markov chains have transition matrices that vary continuously in time. Classical theory of nonnegative matrices, M-matrices and matrix exponentials is used in the literature to study their dynamics, probability distributions and other ...

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY FOR STATISTICAL CLUSTER ANALYSIS OF INFORMATION IN COMPLEX NETWORKS
Information technology has been developed, which is used to collect, process and save large volumes of data from the web space. With the help of technology, the statistical characteristics of various segments of the web space and their cluster structure ...

Stochastic Matrix-Free Equilibration [PDF]
We present a novel method for approximately equilibrating a matrix $A \in {\bf R}^{m \times n}$ using only multiplication by $A$ and $A^T$. Our method is based on convex optimization and projected stochastic gradient descent, using an unbiased estimate of a gradient obtained by a randomized method.
