Structural Properties of Optimal Maintenance Policies for k-out-of-n Systems with Interdependence Between Internal Deterioration and External Shocks

open access: yesMathematics
Many modern engineering systems, such as offshore wind turbines, rely on k-out-of-n configurations to ensure reliability. These systems are exposed to both internal deterioration and external shocks, which can significantly impact operational efficiency ...

Order and stochastic dynamics in Drosophila planar cell polarity. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2009
Cells in the wing blade of Drosophila melanogaster exhibit an in-plane polarization causing distal orientation of hairs. Establishment of the Planar Cell Polarity (PCP) involves intercellular interactions as well as a global orienting signal. Many of the

Patterning the Void: Combining L‐Systems with Archimedean Tessellations as a Perspective for Tissue Engineering Scaffolds

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a novel multi‐scale scaffold design using L‐fractals arranged in Archimedean tessellations for tissue regeneration. Despite similar porosity, tiles display vastly different tensile responses (1–100 MPa) and deformation modes. In vitro experiments with hMSCs show geometry‐dependent growth and activity. Over 55 000 tile combinations

Stochastic Variational Partitioned Runge-Kutta Integrators for Constrained Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Stochastic variational integrators for constrained, stochastic mechanical systems are developed in this paper. The main results of the paper are twofold: an equivalence is established between a stochastic Hamilton-Pontryagin (HP) principle in generalized

A Robust Adaptive Stochastic Gradient Method for Deep Learning

open access: yes, 2017
Stochastic gradient algorithms are the main focus of large-scale optimization problems and led to important successes in the recent advancement of the deep learning algorithms. The convergence of SGD depends on the careful choice of learning rate and the

CRISPR/Cas9‐Assisted Microrobots for Fast and Ultrasensitive “On‐The‐Fly” Next‐Generation DNA Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents self‐propelled CRISPR/Cas9‐functionalized Au–MRs for rapid, amplification‐free, “on‐the‐fly” DNA detection. By harnessing motion‐assisted signal recovery, the platform achieved the limit of detection in low fM DNA concentrations, enabling detection across a wide dynamic range within only 5 min, which is significantly faster than any ...

Uniformly Shifted Exponential Distribution

open access: yesAxioms
The use of life distributions has increased over the past decade, receiving particular attention in recent years, both from a practical and theoretical point of view. Life distributions can be used in a number of applied fields, such as medicine, biology,

Stochastic stability of solutions for a fourth-order stochastic differential equation with constant delay

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications, 2023
In this paper, we present sufficient conditions to ensure the stochastic asymptotic stability of the zero solution for a specific type of fourth-order stochastic differential equation (SDE) with constant delay.

Complex Cryptographic and User‐Centric Physically Unclonable Functions Enabled by Strain‐Sensitive Nanocrystals via Selective Ligand Exchange

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates electromechanical PUFs that improve on traditional electric PUFs. The electron transport materials are coated randomly through selective ligand exchange. It produces multiple keys and a key with motion dependent on percolation and strain, and approaches almost ideal inter‐ and intra‐hamming distances.
