Parameterized Algorithms for Stochastic Steiner Tree Problems
2013We consider the Steiner tree problem in graphs under uncertainty, the so-called two-stage stochastic Steiner tree problem (SSTP). The problem consists of two stages: In the first stage, we do not know which nodes need to be connected. Instead, we know costs at which we may buy edges, and a set of possible scenarios one of which will arise in the second

Stochastic Parameterization of Gravity Wave Stresses
Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences, 1982Abstract Selective transmission of gravity waves into the upper mesosphere and lower thermosphere leads to the generation of mean flows opposite to those below. This interaction is addressed in the context of a simplified transient, stochastic, conservative wave model.

Stochastic subgrid parameterizations for atmospheric and oceanic flows
Physica Scripta, 2012In this paper, we review recently developed closure-based and stochastic model approaches to subgrid scale modelling of eddy interactions motivated by advances in non-equilibrium statistical dynamical closure theory. We demonstrate how statistical dynamical closure models can be used to self-consistently calculate eddy damping and stochastic ...

Solving the Stochastic Growth Model by Parameterizing Expectations
Journal of Business & Economic Statistics, 1990This article describes a method for solving the one-good stochastic growth model by parameterizing the expectations part of the stochastic Euler equation. The conditional expectation is specified as a function of the state of the system, and the parameters of that function are estimated to solve the model.

Stochastic and deterministic multicloud parameterizations for tropical convection
Climate Dynamics, 2013Despite recent advances in supercomputing, current general circulation models poorly represent the variability associated with organized tropical convection. In a recent study, the authors have shown, in the context of a paradigm two baroclinic mode system, that a stochastic multicloud convective parameterization based on three cloud types (congestus ...

Nonlinear quantum-stochastic model for the parameteric oscillator
Annual Meeting Optical Society of America, 1987The positive Prepresentation has proved a useful tool for analyzing optical systems which exhibit squeezing. The Glauber-Sudarshan phase-space representation gives a Fokker-Planck equation without positive semidefinite diffusion for systems which generate nonclassical fields.

In some applications, multivariable stochastic processes that are composed of sequentially arranged independent weakly-stationary processes, may arise. Such multivariable process can be categorized as a class of non-summable processes with very complex probability density function.

A Gaussian-product stochastic Gent–McWilliams parameterization
Ocean Modelling, 2016Abstract The locally-averaged horizontal buoyancy flux by mesoscale eddies is computed from eddy-resolving quasigeostrophic simulations of ocean-mesoscale eddy dynamics. This flux has a very non-Gaussian distribution peaked at zero, not at the mean value.
