LP Rounding Approximation Algorithms for Stochastic Network Design

Mathematics of Operations Research, 2007
We study the Steiner tree problem and the single-cable single-sink network design problem under a two-stage stochastic model with recourse and finitely many scenarios. In these models, some edges are purchased in a first stage when only probabilistic information about the second stage is available.

A stochastic optimization approach for roundness measurements

Pattern Recognition Letters, 1999
Abstract In this paper, we develop a vision-based inspection system for roundness measurements. A stochastic optimization approach has been proposed to compute the reference circles of MIC (maximum inscribing circle), MCC (minimum circumscribing circle) and MZC (minimum zone circle) methods.

The distribution of rounds fired in stochastic duels

Naval Research Logistics Quarterly, 1964
AbstractThis paper continues the development of the theory of stochastic duels to include the distribution of the number of rounds fired. This distribution is principally of interest in estimating stock levels and resupply requirements in appropriate combat situations.

Stochastic duels with round‐dependent hit probabilities

Naval Research Logistics Quarterly, 1975
AbstractThe effect of round dependent hit probabilities in the fundamental stochastic duel are examined. The general solution and several specific examples are derived where one side's hit probabilities are improved from round to round. For these specific cases the advantages of round to round improvement are explicitly displayed.

Randomized rounding and rumor spreading with stochastic dependencies

2010

Rounded Dynamic Programming for Tree-Structured Stochastic Network Design

Proceedings of the AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence, 2014
We develop a fast approximation algorithm called rounded dynamic programming (RDP) for stochastic network design problems on directed trees. The underlying model describes phenomena that spread away from the root of a tree, for example, the spread of influence in a hierarchical organization or fish in a river network.
