Geometric Brownian Motion (GBM) of Stock Indexes and Financial Market Uncertainty in the Context of Non-Crisis and Financial Crisis Scenarios

open access: yesMathematics, 2022
The present article proposes a methodology for modeling the evolution of stock market indexes for 2020 using geometric Brownian motion (GBM), but in which drift and diffusion are determined considering two states of economic conjunctures (states of the ...

Applicability of mitotic figure counting by deep learning: a development and pan‐cancer validation study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed a deep learning method for mitotic figure counting in H&E‐stained whole‐slide images and evaluated its prognostic impact in 13 external validation cohorts from seven different cancer types. Patients with more mitotic figures per mm2 had significantly worse patient outcome in all the studied cancer types except colorectal ...

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

Resilience of Islamic Stock Indexes to Economic Uncertainty: Quantile-on-Quantile Insights

open access: yesJournal of Islamic Monetary Economics and Finance
This paper examines the impact of country specific EPU on Islamic stock indexes of developed, emerging, and frontier markets using Quantile on Quantile Regression (QQR). For robustness, we employ causality in mean and variance.

The Impact of the 2008 Crisis on BM&FBovespa’s Term Structure of Conditional Correlations

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Gestão De Negócios, 2014
This article uses a BEKK-MGARCH model to identify the historical behavior of the term structure of covariance of the Brazilian BM&FBovespa stock exchange when compared to other exchanges in the American continent.

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

The crystal structure of the Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase BBE22 resolves a long‐standing annotation error

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase (PncA/BBE22) reveals the correct full‐length protein initiated from a non‐canonical AUU start codon. The structure validates previous biochemical findings and resolves a long‐standing annotation error, demonstrating that the truncated database sequence is structurally incompatible with the ...
