Compression stockings are recommended for prophylaxis against venous thromboembolism in patients undergoing neurosurgery, but anticoagulant agents have not gained wide acceptance because of concern about intracranial bleeding. In a multicenter, randomized, double-blind trial, we assessed the efficacy and safety of enoxaparin in conjunction with the use ...

Human muscle fatigue and elastic compressive stockings
European Journal of Applied Physiology, 2006The present study was performed to test if elastic compressive stockings (ECSs) increase muscle fatigability during sustained muscle contraction or if it improves the recovery after fatigue. Surface electromyograms (EMGs) were recorded on 4 leg and thigh muscles, and static ankle dorsal flexion force levels were measured in the right limb of 15 healthy

Compression Stockings Reduce Occupational Leg Swelling
Dermatologic Surgery, 2004Evening edema of the legs is a physiologic phenomenon occurring after sitting and standing. The objective of this study was to investigate which compression pressure is necessary to prevent leg swelling. In 12 volunteers, the volume of both lower legs was measured in the morning and 7 h later, the difference being defined as evening edema (mL).

The choice of compressive stocking.
Phlebologie, 1982Correct prescription of an elastic stocking necessitates a thorough acquaintance with the physiopathy of the disorder in question and also of the patient's psychological make up. Superficial venous pressure at the ankle when a patient presenting venous insufficiency walks, as is to be seen in the clinical picture, determines the strength of the ...

[Use of elastic compression stockings].
Ugeskrift for laeger, 2016Post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) is caused by venous insufficiency and is a frequent complication of deep venous thrombosis. Patients with PTS have reduced quality of life and an increased risk of recurrent deep venous thrombosis. Importantly, the risk of PTS is halved by the use of elastic compression stockings.

Dispelling myths concerning the humble compression stocking
British Journal of Community Nursing, 2007This article aims for greater understanding at pre and post-graduate level training of the clinical and economic benefits of using appropriate quality compression hosiery. In particular it focuses on differences between the various types of stockings, their clinical indications and the expected results.

[Compression therapy of the lower extremities particularly with compression stockings].
Der Hautarzt; Zeitschrift fur Dermatologie, Venerologie, und verwandte Gebiete, 1980The compression therapy of the lower extremities is based on strong patho-physiologic lines and is well codified. The necessary values of pression for any case and the exact indication for compression stockings and pantys for each compression class are well known.
