Effect Modification of Cigarette Smoking on the Relationship between Post‐traumatic Stress Disorder, Other Mental Health Conditions and Rheumatoid Arthritis Risk: A Large Case‐Control Study in U.S. Veterans

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective We examined associations of post‐traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other mental health disorders (OMH) with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), accounting for effects of smoking. Methods We conducted a matched case‐control study, identifying incident RA cases and controls using national Veteran Health Administration data (2006‐2019).

The Role of Particle Inertia and Thermal Inertia in Heat Transfer in a Non-Isothermal Particle-Laden Turbulent Flow

open access: yesFluids
We present an analysis of the effect of particle inertia and thermal inertia on the heat transfer in a turbulent shearless flow, where an inhomogeneous passive temperature field is advected along with inertial point particles by a homogeneous isotropic ...

Arbitrary squeeze flow between two disks

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 1994
A viscous incompressible fluid is contained between two parallel disks with arbitrarily shrinking width h(τ). The solution is obtained as a power series in a single nondimensional parameter (squeeze number) S, for small values of S in contrast to the ...

Particle segregation by Stokes number for small neutrally buoyant spheres in a fluid [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2008
It is a commonly observed phenomenon that spherical particles with inertia in an incompressible fluid do not behave as ideal tracers. Due to the inertia of the particle, the dynamics are described in a four dimensional phase space and thus can differ considerably from the ideal tracer dynamics.

A Simplified Laminar Flow Model for the Pultrusion of Glass Fiber/Polyethylene Terephthalate Commingled Yarns

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A simplified thermoplastic pultrusion model is developed to predict thermal fields in glass fiber/polyethylene terephthalate (GF/PET) composites with reduced computational cost. By combining effective material homogenization, validation against literature data, and Gaussian‐process‐based optimization, the study reveals how heating limits, pulling speed,

Characterizing wind, wave, and Stokes drift interactions in the upper ocean during Typhoon Doksuri using the COAWST model

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
The COAWST model is used in this study to simulate wind fields, wave fields, and Stokes drift during Typhoon Doksuri, aiming to reveal the dynamics of atmosphere-ocean-wave interactions under typhoon conditions.

Morphology, Transport, and Dynamics of Protein Adsorption in Open‐Cell Metal Foam

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stainless steel (SS) open‐cell foams are shown to adsorb more protein per unit area than previously reported 316L SS and chromium oxide surfaces under static and flow conditions. An integrated approach combining 3D pore imaging, flow simulation, and protein adsorption experiments characterizes the foam’s performance.

Numerical Characterization of the Solid Particle Accumulation in a Turbulent Flow through Curved Pipes by Means of Stokes Numbers

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
The accumulation of particles in a turbulent flow of incompressible air with mono-dispersed solid particles inside a 90° pipe bend was simulated using ANSYS® Fluent (CFD), taking into account the effect of gravity, drag force and a bidirectional fluid ...
