Scalable Block Preconditioners for Linearized Navier-Stokes Equations at High Reynolds Number

open access: yesAlgorithms, 2020
We review a number of preconditioners for the advection-diffusion operator and for the Schur complement matrix, which, in turn, constitute the building blocks for Constraint and Triangular Preconditioners to accelerate the iterative solution of the ...

Distribution of Particles and Bubbles in Turbulence at a Small Stokes Number [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2012
The inertia of particles driven by the turbulent flow of the surrounding fluid makes them prefer certain regions of the flow. The heavy particles lag behind the flow and tend to accumulate in the regions with less vorticity, while the light particles do the opposite.

Collision and Coagulation in the Infinite-Stokes-Number Regime [PDF]

open access: yesAerosol Science and Technology, 1998
This paper presents a theoretical description of collision and coagulation in the infinite-Stokes-number limit where particle motions are only weakly correlated with the fluid. A methodology for predicting the collision frequency and the particle mean energy is developed based on the assumption of a Maxwellian velocity distribution.

Oseen's correction to stokes drag on axially symmetric arbitrary particle in transverse flow: A new approach [PDF]

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Mechanics, 2014
In this paper, Oseen’s correction to Stokes drag experienced by axially symmetric particle placed in a uniform stream perpendicular to axis of symmetry(i.e. transverse flow) is obtained.

A regime map for dry powder coating: the influence of material properties and process parameters

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemical Engineering, 2023
A numerical study is carried out to investigate the combined influence of material properties and process parameters on coating quality in a high shear mixer (specifically an FT4 Powder Rheometer) to construct a regime map.

Convergence of Parareal for the Navier-Stokes Equations Depending on the Reynolds Number [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The paper presents first a linear stability analysis for the time-parallel Parareal method, using an IMEX Euler as coarse and a Runge-Kutta-3 method as fine propagator, confirming that dominant imaginary eigenvalues negatively affect Parareal's convergence.

Kolmogorov's dissipation number and the number of degrees of freedom for the 3D Navier–Stokes equations [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society of Edinburgh: Section A Mathematics, 2019
AbstractKolmogorov's theory of turbulence predicts that only wavenumbers below some critical value, called Kolmogorov's dissipation number, are essential to describe the evolution of a three-dimensional (3D) fluid flow. A determining wavenumber, first introduced by Foias and Prodi for the 2D Navier–Stokes equations, is a mathematical analogue of ...

Low Mach number limit for the compressible Navier–Stokes equations with density-dependent viscosity and vorticity-slip boundary condition

open access: yesBoundary Value Problems, 2020
In this paper, we consider the three-dimensional compressible Navier–Stokes equations with density-dependent viscosity and vorticity-slip boundary condition in a bounded smooth domain.

Efficiency of capture of inertia aerosol particles in a periodic cell with a porous cylinder

open access: yesУчёные записки Казанского университета: Серия Физико-математические науки, 2022
In this study, aerosol flow in circular and rectangular periodic cells of a regular row of porous cylinders is simulated. The hydrodynamic field of the carrier medium flow outside and in the domain of the porous cylinder is described in the approximation

About the use of the Stokes number for mathematical modeling of two-phase jet flows

open access: yesУчёные записки Казанского университета: Серия Физико-математические науки, 2019
The appropriateness of using the Stokes number as a single similitude parameter for representation of the results of research on two-phase jet flows in a criteria form was considered.
