On operator treatment of a Stokeslet

Siberian Mathematical Journal, 1994
The main goal of this paper is to discuss the Stokes' equations \[ \nabla\cdot\vec v=0,\qquad -\nabla p+\mu\Delta\vec v=-\vec A\delta(\vec x-\vec x_0).\tag{1} \] The particular solution \(p_s\), \(\vec v_s\) of (1): \[ p_s=(\vec A\cdot\nabla)\varphi_s, \qquad \mu\vec v={\textstyle{1\over2}} \nabla(\vec x\cdot\vec A\varphi_s)-\vec A\varphi_s ...

Stokes flow due to a Stokeslet in a pipe

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1978
Velocity and pressure fields for Stokes flow due to a force singularity (Stokeslet) of arbitrary orientation and at arbitrary location inside an infinite circular pipe are obtained. Two alternative expressions for the solution, one in terms of a Fourier-Bessel type expansion, and the other as a doubly infinite series, are given.

Diffusive transport in Stokeslet flow and its application to plankton ecology

Journal of Mathematical Biology, 2006
In this paper we consider the advective/diffusive transport of a solute near a hovering zooplankter. We approximate the fluid flow with that of a Stokeslet, corresponding to the plankter exerting a point force on the water, and assume that the plankter acts as a point source for the transported solute, located at the same point as the force. We find an

Chaos and mixing in micro-biological fluid dynamics: blinking stokeslets

Mathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, 2001
AbstractThe motion of particles and feeding currents around micro‐organisms due to a flagellum are considered. The calculations are pertinent to a range of sessile organisms but we concentrate on fluid motion around Salpingoeca Amphoridium—a choanoflagellate; these are a class of organism in the phylum Protozoa.

On stokeslets in a two-fluid space

Journal of Engineering Mathematics, 1976
A uniform force is applied over an arbitrarily orientated bounded plane area in the interior of a semi-infinite incompressible viscous fluid overlain by a dissimilar fluid. Based upon the Papkovitch-Neuber approach to the displacement equations of equilibrium in the theory of elasticity, it is shown that for any orientation of the force and loaded area,

Flow in a spherical cavity due to a stokeslet

Fluid Dynamics Research, 1993
The earth is considered as a rigid spherical cavity of radius a filled with a highly viscous incompressible fluid of viscosity η. The non-axisymmetric problem of flow due to a stokeslet of strength F/8πη located at (0, 0, c), c < a with its axis along OX, O being the centre of the sphere, is discussed for small Reynolds numbers.
