Pteris madhusoodananii (Pteridaceae), a new fern species from India

Nordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Pteris madhusoodananii sp. nov. (Pteridaceae), from the Kolli hills of Eastern Ghats, India, is described. The new taxon is morphologically distinct, characterized by a unique lamina texture and coloration, specific pinna‐pinnule architecture and distinct spore micromorphology.

Phenotypic plasticity can facilitate species survival in a variety of conditions that are not possible with a fixed phenotype. Foliar water uptake (FWU), defined as the absorption of water through leaf surfaces, is an important mechanism contributing to plant water balance and drought tolerance in many species.
