A simple surgical technique prevents or corrects tracheostoma stenosis. Forty-eight (96%) of patients undergoing laryngectomy in whom this technique was used have maintained adequate stomal size for cleaning, ventilation, and tracheoesophageal fistula speech restoration.

AbstractA new method of correcting a tracheal stoma stricture is presented. It utilizes silastic tubes of rubber‐like properties. Increasing sizes are worn to dilate gradually the strictured stoma. The stoma is then maintained by the largest “stomal button” indefinitely.
