Deep Belief Network based representation learning for lncRNA-disease association prediction [PDF]
Background: The expanding research in the field of long non-coding RNAs(lncRNAs) showed abnormal expression of lncRNAs in many complex diseases. Accurately identifying lncRNA-disease association is essential in understanding lncRNA functionality and disease mechanism.

Dual targeting of AKT and mTOR using MK2206 and RAD001 reduces tumor burden in an intracardiac colon cancer circulating tumor cell xenotransplantation model. Analysis of AKT isoform‐specific knockdowns in CTC‐MCC‐41 reveals differentially regulated proteins and phospho‐proteins by liquid chromatography coupled mass spectrometry. Circulating tumor cells

Inhibitor of DNA binding‐1 is a key regulator of cancer cell vasculogenic mimicry
Elevated expression of transcriptional regulator inhibitor of DNA binding 1 (ID1) promoted cancer cell‐mediated vasculogenic mimicry (VM) through regulation of pro‐angiogenic and pro‐cancerous genes (e.g. VE‐cadherin (CDH5), TIE2, MMP9, DKK1). Higher ID1 expression also increased metastases to the lung and the liver.

MIF as an oncogenic driver of low‐heterogeneity melanomas
Shvefel and colleagues identified tumor‐secreted macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) as an upregulated cytokine that mediates immune resistance in melanomas with low‐intratumoral heterogeneity. MIF and its functional paralogue D‐dopachrome tautomerase (D‐DT or MIF‐2) have overlapping but nonidentical signaling functions and are hypothesized to

Semiparametric Modelling of Cancer Mortality Trends in Colombia [PDF]
In this paper, we compare semiparametric and parametric model adjustments for cancer mortality in breast and cervical cancer and prostate and lung cancer in men, according to age and period of death. Semiparametric models were adjusted for the number of deaths from the two localizations of greatest mortality by sex: breast and cervix in women; prostate

Identification of inhibitors of the Salmonella FraB deglycase, a drug target
A high‐throughput screen was used to identify inhibitors of Salmonella FraB, a drug target. Characterization of top hits (identified after an additional counter screen) revealed that some triazolidines, thiadiazolidines, and triazolothiadiazoles are mixed‐type inhibitors of FraB.

Stomach and duodenal ulcer as a cause of death in patients with cancer: a cohort study
Introduction Non-cancer deaths are now becoming a significant threat to the health of cancer patients. Death from stomach and duodenal ulcer is linked to cancer due to the side effects of treatment and its pathogenesis.
