Effects of Heavy Metals on Stomata in Plants: A Review
Stomata are one of the important structures for plants to alleviate metal stress and improve plant resistance. Therefore, a study on the effects and mechanisms of heavy metal toxicity to stomata is indispensable in clarifying the adaptation mechanism of ...

SCREAM in the making of stomata
Nature Plants, 2019Receptor-mediated regulation of SPEECHLESS by a MAP kinase cascade coordinates cell fate specification during stomatal development. SCREAM functions as a scaffold to bring SPEECHLESS in proximity with MPK3/MPK6, thereby allowing its down-regulation to inhibit stomatal cell fate.

Stomata (singular: stoma) are pores on the surface of the aerial parts of most higher plants. The size of the pore is controlled by changes in the turgor of a pair of specialized cells called guard cells that surround the pore. This enables CO2 entry into the leaf for photosynthesis to be optimized, while conserving as much water as possible.

THE MORBIDITY OF DEFUNCTIONING STOMATA
Australian and New Zealand Journal of Surgery, 1996Background: The choice of a defunctioning stoma in restorative resection of rectal carcinoma is unclear. Traditionally, the loop colostomy has been preferred. Methods: All patients with either a defunctioning loop ileostomy or colostomy treated by a single surgeon (MS) were studied.

Not only the topography, but also the size of stomata is fairly constant in the Bennettitales. Occasional departures from the typical dimensions were probably related to polyploidy. Specialized subsidiary cells, examined with SEM, formed a cupola over the guard cells.

Abstract The method described depends on the fact that in adult leaves inspiration is stomatal rather than cuticular, so that, other things eing equal, the yield of watery vapour depends on the degree to Inch the stomata are open, and may be used as an index of their condition. In principle, it is the same as the methods of Merget and
