ABSTRACT This invited paper gives an overview of the challenges the world is facing and offers a possible solution for water and food security within the holistic integrated concept of the water–energy–food (WEF) nexus. The paper summarizes the experience the author gained through working on various research projects at national and international ...

Trade-offs Between Water Transport Capacity and Drought Resistance in Neotropical Canopy Liana and Tree Species [PDF]
In tropical forest canopies, it is critical for upper shoots to efficiently provide water to leaves for physiological function while safely preventing loss of hydraulic conductivity due to cavitation during periods of soil water deficit or high ...

On the Stomatal Frequency in Barley. : III. Relationship between Stomatal Frequency and Other Traits
Associations of stomatal frequency with heading date and leaf characters were studied. Nine six-rowed barley cultivars differing in stomatal f.requency were planted in the field in the fall of 1975. Stomatal frequency, dry weight, total nitrogen content, Ieaf vein frequency and leaf area of flag leaf were determined.

ABSTRACT Climate change is making water availability more uncertain, with growing consequences for the productivity and long‐term sustainability of tropical and subtropical fruit orchards. Mangifera indica L. and Persea americana Mill. both require large amounts of water to sustain growth and productivity.

Edaphic Specialization in Tropical Trees: Physiological Correlates and Responses to Reciprocal Transplantation [PDF]
Recent research has documented the importance of edaphic factors in determining the habitat associations of tree species in many tropical rain forests, but the underlying mechanisms for edaphic associations are unclear.

This research provides a complete morphoanatomical description of Lysimachia nummularia, as well as a HPTLC profile. Standard techniques of light and scanning electron microscopies, as well as standard techniques of HPTLC, were used. ABSTRACT Primulaceae are distributed all over the world, encompassing around 2590 species.

Abstract BACKGROUND Climate change and population growth are major challenges for sustainable food production, particularly in regions affected by water scarcity and soil salinization. In this context, halophytes represent promising candidates as alternative and sustainable food crops for salt‐affected areas.

Abstract BACKGROUND Assessing crop's responses to elevated carbon dioxide (eCO2) is crucial for global food security. This study examines the impact of eCO2 (700 μmol mol−1) on the cultivars of lentil (Lens culinaris), local Pardina Verde Rayada lentil (PVRL), and commercial Pardina lentil (PL) in terms of the productivity and nutritional composition ...
