SummaryDenture stomatitis has been reported in 11–67% of complete denture wearers. It is more common on the palatal mucosa and in female patients. In Newton's type I denture stomatitis, where the inflammation remains focal, trauma seems to be responsible.

Antimycotic denture adhesive in treatment of denture stomatitis
The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1978The mycologic findings of Candida albicans or culturally similar yeasts in 70% of the subject sample is consistent with those of other researchers. It is, however, only one of several etiologic factors requiring concomitant study to obtain meaningful results.

Chlorhexidine as a denture disinfectant in the treatment of denture stomatitis
European Journal of Oral Sciences, 1972abstract – In a double‐blind study conducted on 53 wearers of complete dentures, application of 2 % chlorhexidine gluconate to the fitting surface of the maxillary denture for 2 weeks was found to produce a significant amelioration of inflamed tissues beneath the denture. Mycelium was eliminated in 90 % of the patients, as evaluated by palatal smears.

Leucocyte function in denture stomatitis
Journal of Dentistry, 1985Abstract As part of a wider series of experiments to study the aetiological significance in denture stomatitis, 30 patients and 30 age- and sex-matched controls were subjected to in vitro antigenic challenge. No abnormality of leucocyte transformation or migration-inhibition factor production could be demonstrated.
