The stomatognathic system in myotonic dystrophy

Patients with myotonic dystrophy have a unique facial appearance. In order to contribute to the characterization of this phenomenon, we have analysed clinical and radiographic parameters in 24 patients and compared the morphologic and functional aspects of the stomatognathic system with those of a control group.

Abstract Disadvantages of Helkimo's Clinical Dysfunction Index have led to the introduction of a palpation test of 20 sites for grading the severity of dysfunction of the stomatognathic system. The reproducibility of this palpation test was studied using two experienced dentists and two first grade dental students to examine the subjects.
