Hemolymph constituents of the stable fly, Stomoxys calcitrans
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Physiology, 1992Abstract 1. 1. Organic constituents of the hemolymph of the adult stable fly, Stomoxys calcitrans (L.) were analysed before and after the first blood meal. 2. 2. Hemolymph trehalose concentration decreases after a blood meal and remains low throughout digestion. 3. 3. Hemolymph glucose concentration decreases immediately following a blood

The possible role of Stomoxys calcitrans in equine sarcoid transmission
The Veterinary Journal, 2018The association between bovine papillomavirus (BPV) and equine sarcoids is well established, but it is unclear how the virus spreads. Although evidence in support of viral spread through direct animal contact exists, this does not explain sarcoid development in isolated equids. BPV DNA has been detected in flies, which could indicate that these insects

Evaluation of mechanical transmission of Anaplasma marginale by Stomoxys calcitrans
Research in Veterinary ScienceThe objective of this study was to investigate the mechanical transmission of Anaplasma marginale to cattle by Stomoxys calcitrans. The S. calcitrans were obtained in field condition and their offspring (first generation) were used in this study originating in the laboratory.

[A Stomoxys calcitrans outbreak on a dairy farm].
Angewandte Parasitologie, 1986In late summer and autumn of 1982 Stomoxys calcitrans disturbed cattle on a dairy farm and scourged the people working there. Both actively and passively Stomoxys calcitrans got into the cowsheds from its nearby breeding sites on open silos. The successful fly control combined sanitary measures with the application of pyrethrum insecticide aerosol.
