Comparison of Electrohydraulic and Electromagnetic Shock Wave Lithotripsy for Upper Urinary Tract Stones in Elderly Patients

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gerontology, 2017
Backgrounds: In this study we compared the clinical outcomes of elderly patients with upper urinary tract stones who underwent extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) with two different machines, an electrohydraulic (EH) and an electromagnetic (EM ...

Tantalum–Palladium Ultrathin Resistance Hydrogen Sensor

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Nanoconfined Ta‐alloy thin films enable fast, reversible hydrogen sensing by suppressing unwanted phase transitions. A Ta0.88${\rm Ta}_{0.88}$Pd0.12${\rm Pd}_{0.12}$ sensing layer delivers hysteresis‐free detection from ppb to 100% H2${\rm H}_2$ at room temperature.

Autologous blood coagulum for fragment removal after ureteroscopic laser lithotripsy

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Urology
Background: Ureteroscopy is the recommended surgical treatment for renal stones less than two centimeters in diameter but often leaves residual fragments, increasing the risk of stone recurrence.

Treatment of renal stones by extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy - An update [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Aim: Despite the extensive experience with minimal invasive stone therapy, there are still different views on the ideal management of renal stones. Materials and Methods: Analysis of the literature includes more than 14,000 patients.

Heteroengineering‐Induced Electronic Reconstruction for Ammonium‐Ion Energy Storage

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An integrated electronic reconstruction behavior is induced by local heteroengineering on VO2(B) electrode material surface of NH4+ supercapacitor, rationally modulating the electronic structure, enabling enhanced intrinsic conductivity and extra driving force for NH4+ intercalation reaction.

Utilizing da vinci® surgical system to treat challenging urinary stones

open access: yesUrology Annals, 2019
Introduction: A worldwide mounting in the incidence and prevalence of urolithiasis has been observed. The standard treatment of urologic stone disease (USD) has changed from open surgery to extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, percutaneous ...

Prostate Cancer Patient‐Derived Organoids (PDOs) as Functional Avatars for Antisense Oligonucleotide (ASO)‐Based Personalized Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Prostate patient‐derived organoids (PDOs) were established from TURP and biopsy specimens with >90% success and retain key features of their tissues of origin, making them functional avatars for antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) therapy . Transfecting single cells outside the Matrigel matrix and then reconstituting organoids overcomes the 3D delivery ...

Stone burden measurement by 3D reconstruction on noncontrast computed tomography is not a more accurate predictor of stone-free rate after percutaneous nephrolithotomy than 2D stone burden measurements

open access: yes, 2020
Purpose: Stone burden has been reported as an independent predictor of stone-free rate after percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL); however no consensus exists on a standardized method for measuring stone burden.

Human iPSC‐Derived Tissue‐Engineered Nigrostriatal Pathway for Chronic Restoration of Dopaminergic Axon Tracts in a Rat Parkinson's Model

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by conventional cell therapy and emerging bioengineering approaches, the tissue‐engineered nigrostriatal pathway (TE‐NSP) has an anatomically‐inspired design comprising a population of human dopaminergic neurons with unidirectional, long‐projecting axon tracts.

Macrophage–Fibroblast Crosstalk Governs Tumor Mechanics, as Revealed by Spatiotemporal Force Mapping in 3D Spheroids

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows crosstalk among tumor cells, fibroblasts, and macrophages alters the physical forces inside 3D tumor spheroids. Incorporating deformable microparticles in 3D tumor spheroids, the researchers mapped mechanical stresses spatially and with respect to tumor growth (temporally).
