Modeling Consonance and its Relationships with Temperament, Harmony, and Electronic Amplification [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
After briefly revising the concepts of consonance/dissonance, a respective mathematic-computational model is described, based on Helmholtz's consonance theory and also considering the partials intensity. It is then applied to characterize five scale temperaments, as well as some minor and major triads and electronic amplification.

Verification of feature regions for stops and fricatives in natural speech [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The presence of acoustic cues and their importance in speech perception have long remained debatable topics. In spite of several studies that exist in this eld, very little is known about what exactly humans perceive in speech.

MET and NF2 alterations confer primary and early resistance to first‐line alectinib treatment in ALK‐positive non‐small‐cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Alectinib resistance in ALK+ NSCLC depends on treatment sequence and EML4‐ALK variants. Variant 1 exhibited off‐target resistance after first‐line treatment, while variant 3 and later lines favored on‐target mutations. Early resistance involved off‐target alterations, like MET and NF2, while on‐target mutations emerged with prolonged therapy.

Tonic signaling of the B‐cell antigen‐specific receptor is a common functional hallmark in chronic lymphocytic leukemia cell phosphoproteomes at early disease stages

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
B‐cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B‐CLL) and monoclonal B‐cell lymphocytosis (MBL) show altered proteomes and phosphoproteomes, analyzed using mass spectrometry, protein microarrays, and western blotting. Identifying 2970 proteins and 316 phosphoproteins, including 55 novel phosphopeptides, we reveal BCR and NF‐kβ/STAT3 signaling in disease ...

Determination of ADP/ATP translocase isoform ratios in malignancy and cellular senescence

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The individual functions of three isoforms exchanging ADP and ATP (ADP/ATP translocases; ANTs) on the mitochondrial membrane remain unclear. We developed a method for quantitatively differentiating highly similar human ANT1, ANT2, and ANT3 using parallel reaction monitoring. This method allowed us to assess changes in translocase levels during cellular

Early processing of consonance and dissonance in human auditory cortex [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Pitch is the perceptual correlate of sound's periodicity and a fundamental property of the auditory sensation. The interaction of two or more pitches gives rise to a sensation that can be characterized by its degree of consonance or dissonance. In the current study, we investigated the neuromagnetic representations of consonant and dissonant musical ...

Arabic emphatic consonants as produced by English speakers: An acoustic study

open access: yesHeliyon, 2023
This study examines the production of emphatic consonants as produced by American L2 learners of Arabic. To this end, 19 participants, 5 native speakers and 14 L2 learners, participated in a production experiment in which they produced monosyllabic CVC ...
