Perception and production of L2 Mandarin stop consonants by Malaysian Malay speakers / Magdalene Vethanayagam James [PDF]
Limited studies have been done on second language acquisition in the Mandarin language by Malaysian Malay learners. Therefore, the current study addressed this literature gap by systematically describing Mandarin stop consonant acquisition among ...

To differentiate between stop-consonants, the auditory system has to detect subtle place of articulation (PoA) and voice onset time (VOT) differences between stop-consonants.

Transients at stop-consonant releases [PDF]
The acoustic properties and perceptual significance of transients at the release of stop consonants and affricates was studied. The theory of transient production is based on a model in which pressure is built up in a closed tube and the radiated sound is calculated following an abrupt release of the pressure.

Influence of preceding liquids on stop-consonant perception [PDF]
When a syllable-final liquid precedes a syllable-initial stop, it may influence the perceived place of stop-consonant production. To demonstrate this phenomenon, the CV portions of natural tokens of /al da/, /al ga/, /at da/, and /at ga/ were excised and replaced with closely matched synthetic stimuli forming a /da/-/ga/ continuum. The resulting hybrid

Airflow in stop-vowel sequences of German [PDF]
This study reports on the results of an airflow experiment that measured the duration of airflow and the amount of air from release of a stop to the beginning of a following vowel in stop vowel-sequences of ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Subphonemic and suballophonic consonant variation : the role of the phoneme inventory [PDF]
Consonants exhibit more variation in their phonetic realization than is typically acknowledged, but that variation is linguistically constrained. Acoustic analysis of both read and spontaneous speech reveals that consonants are not necessarily realized ...

Towards a phonetic conspectus of preaspiration [PDF]
Preaspiration, i.e. [hC], is a rare feature of stop production in the world’s languages that has been recently found to occur in Sienese Italian.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
