Stopover Ecology of Autumn Landbird Migrants in the Boise Foothills of Southwestern Idaho [PDF]
The topography of western North America provides a complex landscape for landbird migrants, and stopover patterns in this region are poorly understood.

Many populations of long‐distance migrant shorebirds are declining rapidly. Since the 1970s, the lesser yellowlegs (Tringa flavipes) has experienced a pronounced reduction in abundance of ~63%. The potential causes of the species' decline are complex and

The evolutionary and behavioural ecology of migratory birds has received much theoretical and 28 empirical attention. We contribute to this field by contrasting the weather at departure and 29 stopover durations of a long-distance migratory sandpiper ...

Abstract Research Summary We extend ecosystem theory to cases in which platforms are complementors to each other: inter‐platform ecosystems. Analyzing web traffic data on 241 European platforms, we identify and characterize demand‐side inter‐platform ecosystems, and propose a theory of why they emerge.

Using programmable infusion pump in avian species – a validation methodology in geese
Wildlife face anthropogenic and natural stressors that affect their physiology and behaviour. The activity of the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis and glucocorticoid (GC) production is intrinsically linked with energy regulation and environmental stressors.

Neotropical Bird Migration During The Ice Ages: Orientation And Ecology [PDF]
Reconstruction of breeding habitat of North American Neotropical migrants 18,000 years ago and 9,000 years ago indicated major shifts in both location and composition of plant communities relative to present conditions.

Diet, phenology and body size shape nutrient release by songbirds
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Animals can dramatically alter ecosystem structure and function through the cycling and transport of nutrients in their waste. While birds are particularly capable of influencing nutrient cycles due to their high mobility, abundance, metabolism and functional diversity,

Winter Conditions Influence Biological Responses of Migrating Hummingbirds
Conserving biological diversity given ongoing environmental changes requires the knowledge of how organisms respond biologically to these changes; however, we rarely have this information. This data deficiency can be addressed with coordinated monitoring

Berries to Go: Distinct Passerine Spring Migration Frugivory at a Main Mediterranean Stopover Site
Many animals show phenotypic flexibility in response to a seasonal environment. Especially migratory birds have been found to exhibit striking physiological and behavioural adaptations to overcome the negative impacts of environmental seasonality ...
