Driving Beyond Stopping Distance Constraints
2006 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems, 2006This paper discusses swerving as an alternative for stopping as a primary obstacle avoidance maneuver. By swerving instead of stopping, we show it is possible to achieve significantly higher-speeds given the same sensor capability. We have demonstrated navigation at speeds which rely on the principles described in this paper.
