Cerebrospinal Fluid Over Plasma Links Analytes to Cognitive Decline in Older Adults at Risk for Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To identify inflammatory analytes in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and plasma associated with cognitive decline in cognitively normal (CN) older adults at risk for Alzheimer's disease (AD). Methods In a longitudinal study of 118 CN older adults (65–80 years, 54% APOE ε4, 26% preclinical AD), 1331 CSF and 1501 plasma analytes were ...

Heuristic Algorithms for Assigning Ship Assembly Blocks to Storage Locations at a Shipyard

open access: yesJournal of International Logistics and Trade, 2017
We consider the problem of assigning ship assembly blocks to storage locations at a ship yard while allowing one-way movement of the blocks. The objective is to minimize the number of blocks obstructing other blocks’ movements. We show that the integer program in a previous study contains errors in identifying obstructive blocks and therefore, suggest ...

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Towards Defect Phase Diagrams: From Research Data Management to Automated Workflows

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A research data management infrastructure is presented for the systematic integration of heterogeneous experimental and simulation data required for defect phase diagrams. The approach combines openBIS with a companion application for large‐object storage, automated metadata extraction, provenance tracking and federated data access, thereby supporting ...

Fostering Innovation: Streamlining Magnetocaloric Materials Research by Digitalization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetocaloric cooling (MCE) is an environmentally friendly refrigeration method with great potential. Optimizing MCE materials involves the preparation and screening of large quantities of samples, which in turn generates a large amount of data. A digitalization approach is presented that uses ontologies, knowledge graphs, and digital workflows to ...

Changes in the Fungal Microbiome of Maize During Hermetic Storage in the United States and Kenya

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
Prior to harvest, maize kernels are invaded by a diverse population of fungal organisms that comprise the microbiome of the grain mass. Poor post-harvest practices and improper drying can lead to the growth of mycotoxigenic storage fungi and ...
