A Storage Ring for Neutral Molecules [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Electrostatic hexapoles are common tools in physical chemistry for performing state-selection and focusing of molecules. A hexapole can be viewed as a 2D-trap for polar molecules in low-field seeking states. Therefore, by bending such a hexapole into a torus a storage ring for neutral molecules can be formed.

Microcalorimeters for X-Ray Spectroscopy of Highly Charged Ions at Storage Rings

open access: yesAtoms, 2018
X-ray spectroscopy of highly charged heavy ions is an important tool for the investigation of many topics in atomic physics. Such highly charged ions, in particular hydrogen-like uranium, are investigated at heavy ion storage rings, where high charge ...

Nuclear astrophysics in storage rings [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Physics A, 1997
Nuclear reaction cross sections are usually very small in typical astrophysical environments. It has been one of the major challenges of experimental nuclear astrophysics to assess the magnitude of these cross sections in the laboratory. For a successful experiment high luminosity beams are needed.

EDM Experiments at Storage Rings

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2018
According to our present understanding, the early Universe contained the same amount of matter and anti-matter and, if the Universe had behaved symmetrically as it developed, every particle would have been annihilated by one of its antiparticles.

Towards storage rings as quantum computers

open access: yesPhysical Review Accelerators and Beams, 2020
We explore the possible use of particle beam storage rings as quantum computers. More precisely, we consider creating an ion trap system, in which the same computational basis states can be defined as in a modern ion trap system, but in which the ions ...

Self-Polarization in Storage Rings [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of 23rd International Spin Physics Symposium — PoS(SPIN2018), 2019
This is an advance summary of a forthcoming article in the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Physics. Please check back later for the full article. The conditions for the Sokolov-Ternov effect to occur are approximately satisfied by electrons (or positrons) circulating on the design orbit of a planar ...

Electric dipole moment of charged particles using storage rings [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2023
The Standard Model (SM) of Particle Physics cannot explain the matter-antimatter asymmetry in the Universe. Especially, new sources of CP-violation are necessary, and this is why physics beyond the SM is being explored.

SPIN OSCILLATIONS IN STORAGE RINGS [PDF]

open access: yesSpin 2004, 2005
The dependence of the particle rotation frequency on the particle orbit perturbations is found. The exact equation of spin motion in the cylindrical coordinate system is derived. The calculated formula for the frequency of g-2 precession is in the best agreement with previous results.

Autoresonant excitation of nonlinear beam motion in storage rings

open access: yesPhysical Review Accelerators and Beams, 2022
Understanding and controlling of nonlinear beam dynamics are essential to the performance of storage ring light sources. In order to measure and correct limitations due to nonlinear beam dynamics, an effective method is needed to excite the beam ...
