Tuning the Dielectric Properties of Individual Clay Nanosheets by Interlayer Composition: Toward Nano‐Electret Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The dielectric properties of clays are studied on the level of individual monolayers and functional double stacks. The material breakdown characteristics and charge storage performance are analyzed. For illustration, a defined charge pattern representing a cuneiform character is produced, written into a microscopic clay tile, referencing the origins of

Visualization of Protein Sorting at the Trans-Golgi Network and Endosomes Through Super-Resolution Imaging

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2019
The trans-Golgi network (TGN) and endosomes are essential protein sorting stations in the secretory transport pathway. Protein sorting is fundamentally a process of spatial segregation, but the spatial relationships among the proteins that constitute the

Digital Actuation Control of Soft Robotic Origami With Self‐Folding Liquid Crystal Elastomer Hinges

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Self‐folding soft‐rigid hybrid robotic origami is enabled by liquid crystal elastomer actuators with embedded Joule heating and closed‐loop digital control. Digitally addressable hinges provide reversible and programmable transitions between distinct folded states while maintaining actuation performance at high cycle counts (over 1500).

The Modified Trochleoplasty for Trochlear Dysplasia Types B and D

open access: yesArthroscopy Techniques
Trochlear dysplasia is a major risk factor for recurrent patellar instability, often requiring surgical intervention in high-grade cases. The present modified trochleoplasty technique, known as the “Brazilian trochleoplasty,” is a reproducible technique ...

Spatial characteristics of thunderstorm rainfall fields and their relation to runoff [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The main aim of this study was to assess the ability of simple geometric measures of thunderstorm rainfall in explaining the runoff response from the watershed. For calculation of storm geometric properties (e.g.

Counterion Dependent Side‐Chain Relaxation Stiffens a Chemically Doped Thienothiophene Copolymer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Oxidation of a thienothiophene copolymer, p(g3TT‐T2), via different doping strategies and dopant molecules resulted in materials with similar oxidation levels and a high electrical conductivity of ≈100 S cm−1. However, mechanical properties varied significantly, with sub‐glass transition temperatures and elastic moduli spanning from –44°C to –3°C and ...

Analytical solution of steady reconnection outflows in a time-varying three-dimensional reconnection model with generalized spatiotemporal distributions

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics
Magnetic reconnection is a fundamental mechanism for energy conversion in the realms of space physics, astrophysics, and plasma physics. Over the past few decades, obtaining analytical solutions for three-dimensional (3D) magnetic reconnection has ...

Water Quality Outreach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The Town of Exeter was interested in creating an education program for nonpoint source pollution. Exeter was not designated as a small municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4) with the first group of Seacoast towns, but realized we had some of the ...

Quasi‐Static to Supersonic Energy Absorption of Nanoarchitected Tubulanes and Schwarzites

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Nanoarchitected energy‐absorptive Tubulanes exhibit record energy absorption under quasi‐static conditions and exceptional inelastic energy dissipation under 750 m s−1 ballistics impact, with high performance spanning strain rates of 12 orders of magnitude.
