Compound flood potential from storm surge and heavy precipitation in coastal China

open access: yesHydrology and Earth System Sciences, 2020
. The interaction between storm surge and concurrent precipitation can cause greater flooding impacts than either in isolation. This paper investigates the potential compound effects from these two flooding drivers along the coast of China. Statistically

A Si‐MoSe2 Heterostructured Anode with Enhanced Thermal Transport and Electrochemical Performance for Liquid and All‐Solid‐State Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Chemically bonded Si@MoSe2@C heterointerfaces with robust Si─Se─Mo bonds enable high‐performance Si anodes. Lattice‐matched MoSe2 on porous Si with carbon‐protective coating delivers 1054 mAh g−1 after 100 cycles and 99.5% Coulombic efficiency over 400 cycles.

Breaking the Cycle: Short Recurrence and Overshoot of an M9-class Kamchatka Earthquake

open access: yesSeismica
M9-class megathrust earthquakes in subduction zones are generally thought to release slip deficits on the plate interface accumulated over centuries. However, the 2025 Kamchatka earthquake (Mw 8.8-8.9) ruptured nearly the same area as the 1952 Mw 9.0 ...

Using Satellite Altimetry to Calibrate the Simulation of Typhoon Seth Storm Surge off Southeast China

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2018
Satellite altimeters can capture storm surges generated by typhoons and tropical storms, if the satellite flies over at the right time. In this study, we show TOPEX/Poseidon altimeter-observed storm surge features off Southeast China on 10 October 1994 ...

Model Simulation of Storm Surge in the Northwestern South China Sea Under the Impact of Sea Level Rise: A Case Study of Super Typhoon Rammasun (2014)

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2022
Because of global warming, the sea level is expected to continue to rise, possibly having a significant impact on the intensities and spatial distribution characteristics of coastal storm surges.

Simulating storm surge and compound flooding events with a creek-to-ocean model: Importance of baroclinic effects

open access: yesOcean Modelling, 2020
We present a creek-to-ocean 3D baroclinic model based on unstructured grids that aims to unite traditional hydrologic and ocean models in a single modeling platform, by taking full advantage of the polymorphism (i.e.

Molecularly Bridged Heterointerface Engineering: Designing Transparent, Wear‐Resistant, Hard yet Flexible Optoelectronic Protective Film

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A molecular‐bridging heterogeneous interface engineering strategy is introduced to combine a polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS)‐based hard coating with a colorless polyimide (CPI)‐based flexible layer. The robust heterogeneous interface endows the integrated system with the superior properties of both layers and their synergistic ...

Effects of tropical cyclone intensity on spatial footprints of storm surges: an idealized numerical experiment

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters
Storm surges caused by tropical cyclones (TCs) have long ranked first among all types of marine disasters in casualties and economic losses, and can lead to further regional exacerbation of consequences stemming from these losses along different ...

Comparative Analysis of BALSSA and Conventional NWP Methods: A Case Study in Extreme Storm Surge Prediction in Macao

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2023
In coastal regions, accurate storm surge prediction is crucial for effective disaster management and risk mitigation. This study presents a comparative analysis between BALSSA (Bidirectional Attention-based LSTM for Storm Surge Architecture) and the ...

Impact of Moisture Exposure on Thermal Stability and Safety of Solid‐State Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Sulfide‐based solid‐state batteries (SSBs) hold significant potential for next‐generation energy storage, yet their practical deployment is hindered by the moisture sensitivity of sulfide solid electrolytes. This study examines how moisture exposure influences thermo‐electrochemical instability at the material and cell‐level, and underscores the ...
