Effects of tropical cyclone intensity on spatial footprints of storm surges: an idealized numerical experiment

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters
Storm surges caused by tropical cyclones (TCs) have long ranked first among all types of marine disasters in casualties and economic losses, and can lead to further regional exacerbation of consequences stemming from these losses along different ...

Storm Surges in West Coast of Korea by Typhoon Bolaven (1215)

open access: yes, 2014

On the prediction of storm surges

open access: yesSadhana, 1994
The article provides a review of some recent work on the prediction of storm surges. Beginning with a historical account of major Bay of Bengal cyclones in the last two decades, it provides a description of surge prediction techniques. The assumptions that are made are discussed critically. This is followed by an account of the forcing terms that drive

Impacts of Sea-Level Rise and Storm Surges Due to Climate Change in the Firth of Clyde

open access: yes, 2017
The Firth of Clyde Forum brought together various partners to fund and manage this project in order to better understand the threat that sea-level rise and storm surges pose to vulnerable habitats, coastal communities, and infrastructure in the local ...

Risk assessment of tropical storm surges for coastal regions of China

open access: yes, 2014
Storm surges are responsible for much of the damage and loss of life associated with landfalling tropical cyclones (TCs). Thus, understanding the characteristics of risk associated with TC storm surges for the coastal regions of China is of great ...

Predicting Storm Surges: Chaos, Computational Intelligence, Data Assimilation, Ensembles

open access: yes, 2011
Accurate predictions of storm surge are of importance in many coastal areas. This book focuses on data-driven modelling using methods of nonlinear dynamics and chaos theory for predicting storm surges.

Modelling storm surges and forecast effects in designing the Rotterdam storm surge barrier

open access: yes, 1991
In 1989 the Dutch government decided to build a storm surge barrier in the New Waterway near Rotterdam being a good and cheap alternative for the necessary strengthening of dikes along the lower regions of the Dutch rivers Rhine and Meuse. To be feasible

Modeling Hourly Storm Surges using Deep Learning Techniques

open access: yes
Storm surges cause coastal flooding, one of the most devastating coastal hazards. Accurate modeling of storm surges is essential for predicting and mitigating these impacts. Traditional approaches model surges at individual tide gauges and often focus on
