Interstory drifts of multi-story buildings under random earthquake excitations
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 2009Interstory drifts of multi-story buildings with interval parameters subjected to stationary or non-stationary earthquake excitations are investigated. A multi-story building is modelled as a shear beam structure. The uncertainties of structural mass, stiffness, and damping are described by interval variables.

Story Drift Response of R/C Buildings with Hysteretic Dampers
IABSE Reports, 2009<p>This paper investigates the story drift response of reinforced concrete (R/C) building structures with hysteretic dampers subjected to ground motions. Specifically, it focuses on the effect of the stiffness of the main structure on the story drift demand.

Seismic Performance of Story Drift–Controlled RC Frames with Hysteretic Dampers
Earthquake Spectra, 2012This paper investigates the seismic performance of story drift–controlled reinforced concrete (RC) frames with hysteretic dampers. The frame models include a wide range of mechanical properties of dampers, which are defined according to a proportion rule in order to explicitly control the yield story drift of dampers.

International Journal of Structural Engineering, 2017
This article attempts to study the effect of various pulse-like ground motion parameters and local site conditions on the linear response of different multi-story buildings with special shear and flexural behaviour. The multi-story buildings are modelled using a combination of a shear and flexural beams with representative lateral stiffness ratios.

Peak Story Drift of a Building Structure Subjected to Earthquakes
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014Many studies have demonstrated that the story drift is the critical parameter that is best correlated with damage in buildings. In this study, an approximate solution for mean value and standard deviation of peak story drift at each story of a building structure under earthquake motions was derived, based on random vibration theory.

Stiffness configuration of strongbacks to mitigate inter-story drift concentration in buildings
Engineering Structures, 2019Abstract This paper examines the stiffness configuration of strongbacks to effectively mitigate inter-story drift concentration in buildings. This study first develops a simplified numerical model for simulating buildings with strongbacks. This simplified numerical model is capable of reflecting the various deformation types of the strongbacks and ...

Seismic Panel Zone Design Effect on Elastic Story Drift in Steel Frames
Journal of Structural Engineering, 1990A substantial change in seismic design requirements for column panel zones (PZs) in steel moment-resisting frames (MRFs) for buildings was implemented recently in several codes for building construction. Previously, it was implied that PZs had to develop the full flexural plastic strength of the beams framing a joint without yielding.

The Structural Design of Tall and Special Buildings, 2017
SummaryThis paper proposes an application of tension‐rod displacement–restraint bracing to prevent story drift amplification in tall steel moment frames. Seismic response analyses of a 20‐story bare steel frame are performed first, revealing that story drift amplification occurs in the upper and lower stories at different times.

Abstract This paper investigates a new seismic rehabilitation technology for low-rise and mid-rise steel Concentrically Braced Frames (CBFs) vulnerable to inter-story drift concentration and soft-story failures. The technology consists of installation of a single or multiple sufficient Rocking Cores (RCs) pinned to the foundation and connected to an ...
