Review on Stress-Strain Rate Controllable Loading of Functionally Graded Materials
Given the dependence that key material dynamic properties in critical fields (e.g., national defense security and high-end manufacturing) have on stress-strain rate-controlled loading.

ErB4 and NdB4 nanostructured powders are produced by mechanochemical synthesis. 5 h mechanical alloying and 4 M HCl acid leaching are used in the production. ErB4 and NdB4 powders exhibit maximum magnetization of 0.4726 emu g−1 accompanied with an antiferromagnetic‐to‐paramagnetic phase transition at about TN = 18 K and 0.132 emu g−1 with a maximum at ...

Effect of dynamic strain rate on micro-indentation properties of pure aluminum
Indentation is widely used to investigate the elastic and plastic properties of mechanical materials, which includes the strain rate sensitivity. The indentation exhibits an inhomogeneous strain distribution in contrast to compression and tensile tests ...

Shear band dynamics from a mesoscopic modeling of plasticity
The ubiquitous appearance of regions of localized deformation (shear bands) in different kinds of disordered materials under shear is studied in the context of a mesoscopic model of plasticity.

The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Performance of Monolayer Graphene Nanomechanical Resonators with Electrical Readout
The enormous stiffness and low density of graphene make it an ideal material for nanoelectromechanical (NEMS) applications. We demonstrate fabrication and electrical readout of monolayer graphene resonators, and test their response to changes in mass and

Strain-Rate Dependent Behavior of Dispersed Nanocomposites
With decreasing production costs, carbon nanomaterials have become common, scalable, and cost-effective additives in high-performance composites due to the potentially significant increases in mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties. The mechanical performance of carbon nanomaterial-reinforced matrix materials under high-strain-rate compressive ...

Dynamic Precipitation during High‐Pressure Torsion of a Magnesium–Manganese Alloy
An ultrafine‐grained alloy is produced by high‐pressure torsion of solutionized Mg–1.35 wt% Mn. Precipitation of nanometer‐scale Mn particles during deformation provides pinning sites. This prevents the formation of a bimodal grain structure and results in a finer grain size than for pure Mg.

Demonstration test of burner liner strain measurements using resistance strain gages [PDF]
A demonstration test of burner liner strain measurements using resistance strain gages as well as a feasibility test of an optical speckle technique for strain measurement are presented. The strain gage results are reported.
