Strain-rate-dependent failure criteria for composites
Composites Science and Technology, 2011Abstract The objective of this study was to characterize the quasi-static and dynamic behavior of composite materials and develop/expand failure theories to describe static and dynamic failure under multi-axial states of stress. A unidirectional carbon/epoxy material was investigated.

Multi-Stepwise Strain-Rate Loading Consolidation Test to Evaluate Strain Rate Dependency
2019To evaluate the long-term consolidation characteristics on the basis of the isotache concept, long-term consolidation test is required. However, it is very difficult to conduct long-term consolidation test in practice, because it takes a very long test period of three weeks or longer. In order to solve this problem, a multi-staged loading constant rate

Strain-Rate-Dependent Behavior of Polymeric Foams
52nd AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics and Materials Conference, 2011In many applications composite sandwich structures with polymeric foam cores are exposed to high energy and high velocity dynamic loadings producing multi-axial dynamic states of stress. The material studied was a closed cell PVC foam, an orthotropic/transversely isotropic material, exhibiting strain-rate-dependent elastic/viscoplastic behavior.

Strain-Rate-Dependent Constitutive Equations for Concrete
Journal of Pressure Vessel Technology, 1998This paper summarizes the results of a comprehensive experimental study to quantify the effects of strain rate on concrete compressive and tensile strengths. Direct compression and splitting tensile tests were conducted at quasi-static rates (between 10−7/s and 10−5/s) in a standard MTS machine to establish the “static” properties.

Fracture toughness of amorphous Fe40Ni40B20 ribbons: strain rate dependence
Journal of Materials Science Letters, 1990The result of an experiment, indicates that the properties and the distribution of the defects in the amorphous structure of MG may be altered by the influence of the mechanical stress. The aim of the experiments was to detect this effect by measuring the fracture toughness K c of an Fe 40 Ni 40 B 20 ...

Inferior glenohumeral ligament: Geometric and strain-rate dependent properties
Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, 1996The inferior glenohumeral ligament (IGHL) is an important structure for maintaining shoulder stability. This study was aimed at determining the geometric and anatomic characteristics of the IGHL and its tensile properties at a higher strain rate than previously tested. Eight fresh-frozen human cadaver shoulders (average age 69 years, age range 62 to 73

Method and strain rate dependence of Achilles tendon stiffness
Journal of Electromyography and Kinesiology, 2012Tendon stiffness is calculated by dividing changes in tendon force by tendon elongation. For this purpose, participants are commonly asked to perform a maximal muscle contraction ("active" method). Alternatively tendon elongation can be achieved by means of a passive joint rotation ("passive" method).

Strain-rate Dependency of Axonal Tolerance for Uniaxial Stretching
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2017This study aims to clarify the relation between axonal deformation and the onset of axonal injury. Firstly, to examine the influence of strain rate on the threshold for axonal injury, cultured neurons were subjected to 12 types of stretching (strains were 0.10, 0.15, and 0.20 and strain rates were 10, 30, 50, and 70 s-1).

Dependence of magnitude statistics on strain rate
Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 1976Abstract Magnitude statistics (log N = a − bM) were measured for mine tremors and for the Parkfield earthquakes, listed by McEvilly, Bakun and Casaday (1967), in conditions of varying rates of aseismic ground deformation. Aseismic deformation rates were estimated using a tiltmeter in the ERPM gold mine and using results from small ...

Strain Rate and Temperature Dependence in PVC
Polymers are frequently used in applications in which they may be exposed to high rate or impact loading and there is growing industrial importance in understanding their mechanical behaviour at different strain rates. This paper describes research that has been performed to better understand and predict the dependence on strain rate of mechanical ...M.J. Kendall, C.R. Siviour
