A New Bursting Liability Evaluation Index for Coal –The Effective Elastic Strain Energy Release Rate
Because both faults and cleats exist in coal, sharp stress drops occur during loading when coal is deformed. These drops occur during the pre-peak stage and are accompanied by sudden energy releases.

Propagation of Matrix Cracking and Induced Delaminatin in Cross-Ply Composite Beams Subjected to Bending Loads [PDF]
Due to the mismatch of mechanical properties in composite laminates, propagation of delami-nation is considered as a severe damage mechanism in beams with various lay-up configurations.

The weakening of circular tunnels is a global problem that has not been resolved satisfactorily. In the tunnelling process, surrounding rock of circular-tunnel performs a process of “excavating → weakening → continuous excavating → weakening strengthens”.

R-curve Evaluation of Copper and Nickel Single Crystals Using Atomistic Simulations
The technique of molecular statics (MS) simulation was employed to determine the crack growth resistance curve of Cu and Ni single crystals. Copper and Ni single crystal nanoplates with an edge crack subjected to a tensile displacement were simulated ...

The crack kinking out of an interface [PDF]
Kinking of a plane strain crack out of an interface between the two dissimilar isotropic elastic materials is analyzed. Analysis is focused on the initiation of kinking and thus the segment of the crack leaving the interface is imagined to be short ...

Mixed-mode I/III fracture study of sandwich beams
The capacity of prestressed split-cantilever beam (SCB) for investigation of mixed-mode I/III fracture in foam core sandwich constructions was evaluated theoretically. The fracture was studied in terms of the strain energy release rate. In this relation,

Fracture toughness and critical strain energy release rate of dental amalgam [PDF]
Fracture toughness, critical strain energy release rate and critical stress intensity factor were determined for lathe-cut, spherical, admixed, and two atomized high-copper dental amalgams. At a loading rate of 0.005cm min−1 for 24-hour samples, the spherical amalgam had the highest resistance to unstable crack propagation.

According to the steady state of fault and energy balance, we provided a new idea to observe the precursors for a stressed fault. The meta-instability (or sub-instability) state of a fault is defined as the transition phase from peak stress to critical ...
