X‐ray strain field atlas

Strain, 1985
Considering one‐axial strain fields in the penetration depth of X‐rays, the corresponding measurement distribution of e versus sin2 ψ are calculated for 24 different one‐axial strains. The parameter is the measurement direction. The deformations of neighbouring points are calculated with Taylor series and described with linear expressions.

STRAIN FIELDS IN DIAMONDLIKE AMORPHOUS CARBON

International Journal of Modern Physics B, 2000
This paper reviews the fundamental ideas related to the concept of local atomic stresses and their application to the study of strain fields in ta-C. The calculations are based on Monte Carlo simulations within the empirical potential approach. We find that the stress distributions in ta-C are high inhomogeneous, both in the bulk as well as in the ...

Gauge fields and strain engineering

2012
We discuss the physics of pseudomagnetic field,s which can be induced in graphene by applying strains, and show how they can be used to manipulate electronic transport through graphene heterostructures (strain engineering). We consider strain-induced pseudo-Landau levels, which were observed in graphene, and discuss the related valley quantum Hall ...

Strain fields at contacts between small particles

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2003
Stress fields between interacting small particles ( approximately 100 nm) have been investigated by transmission electron microscopy. The background for these TEM observations is discussed in terms of adhesion stress fields (due to surface forces), the action of an applied point force, possibly magnetic, and dislocations or misfit strains due to an ...

Dark field electron holography for strain measurement

Ultramicroscopy, 2011
Dark field electron holography is a new TEM-based technique for measuring strain with nanometer scale resolution. Here we present the procedure to align a transmission electron microscope and obtain dark field holograms as well as the theoretical background necessary to reconstruct strain maps from holograms. A series of experimental parameters such as

Diffusion effects in calcium-regulated strain fields

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1989
The Goodwin-Trainor equations for cellular morphogenesis, based on calcium ion regulation of the visco-elastic properties of the cellular cortex, are generalized to the situation where the concentration of calcium ions (free plus bound) is allowed to change locally.

Full-field Strain Measurement using a Luminescent Coating

Experimental Mechanics, 2003
In this paper we describe an optical-based technique, called strain sensitive skin (S3), for measuring in-plane strain data on structural members under static load. The technique employs a coating consisting of a luminescent dye and polymer binder that is applied to the surface of a test part via conventional aerosol techniques.

Strain field measurement by transverse digital holography

Applied Optics, 2015
The technique generally referred to as speckle correlation interferometry may be described as transverse digital holography when phase stepping is applied, because phase stepping allows complete maps to be obtained of the transverse displacement of an object surface.

Piezoelectric fields in strained heterostructures and superlattices

Physical Review B, 1992
The piezoelectric response of strained heterostructures and superlattices is examined. A general crystallographic direction of growth is assumed for a subcritical cubic piezoelectric layer. Piezoelectric fields appear only along (or opposite to) the growth axis, provided all three direction cosines of the latter, relative to the cubic axes, are nonzero.
