In this paper, a novel size-dependent functionally graded (FG) cylindrical shell model is developed based on the nonlocal strain gradient theory in conjunction with the Gurtin-Murdoch surface elasticity theory.

In this paper, a thermoelastic problem involving a viscous strain gradient beam is considered from the analytical and numerical points of view. The so-called type Ⅱ thermal law is used to model the heat conduction and two possible dissipation mechanisms ...

Straintronics in graphene nanoribbons [PDF]
The interplay between uniaxial strain and charging effects in zigzag graphene nanoribbons (ZGNR) is investigated by using non-equilibrium Green's function formalism. The I-V characteristic curves and especially negative differential resistance (NDR) induced by some quantum selection rules are affected by the type, strength and also direction of the ...

Dislocations in second strain gradient elasticity
AbstractA second strain gradient elasticity theory is proposed based on first and second gradients of the strain tensor. Such a theory is an extension of first strain gradient elasticity with double stresses. In particular, the strain energy depends on the strain tensor and on the first and second gradient terms of it.

Phase Transition of Iron-based Single Crystals at Extreme Strain Rates under Dynamic Loadings [PDF]
Phase transition of iron, as a prototype of martensite phase transition under dynamic loadings, exhibits huge diverges in its TP among experiments with different pressure medium and loading rates, even in the same initial samples. Great achievements are made in understanding strain or stress dependence of the TP under dynamic loadings. However, present

Strain gradient visco-plasticity with dislocation densities contributing to the energy [PDF]
We consider the energetic description of a visco-plastic evolution and derive an existence result. The energies are convex, but not necessarily quadratic. Our model is a strain gradient model in which the curl of the plastic strain contributes to the energy.
