The ab-initio aided strain gradient elasticity theory

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity, 2019
When the width of cracked nanocomponents made of brittle or quasi-brittle materials is less than approximately , the size of the - dominance zone becomes smaller than  and comparable to the fracture process zone ( ).

Modified Nonlocal Strain Gradient Elasticity for Nano-Rods and Application to Carbon Nanotubes

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
Nowadays, the modified nonlocal strain gradient theory provides a mathematically well-posed and technically reliable methodology to assess scale effects in inflected nano-structures.

Microstructural Evolution and Vacancy Defect Formation in Mn–Mo–Ni RPV Steel Under Low Cycle Fatigue: Insights From EBSD and PALS

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐cycle fatigue damage in Mn–Mo–Ni reactor pressure vessel steel is examined using a combined electron backscatter diffraction and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy approach. The study correlates texture evolution, dislocation substructure development, and vacancy‐type defect formation across uniform, necked, and fracture regions, providing

Tailorable thermoelasticity of cubic lattice-based cellular and granular materials by prestress

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2023
When a cubic lattice packaged by a boundary layer is subjected to a mechanical and temperature load, the force and length change of the bonds are equivalently evaluated by the average stress and strain of the unit cell.

A unifying perspective: the relaxed linear micromorphic continuum

open access: yes, 2013
We formulate a relaxed linear elastic micromorphic continuum model with symmetric Cauchy force-stresses and curvature contribution depending only on the micro-dislocation tensor.

Nonlinear strain gradient elastic thin shallow shells

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Mechanics - A/Solids, 2011
The governing equilibrium equations for strain gradient elastic thin shallow shells are derived, considering non-linear strains and linear constitutive strain gradient elastic relations. Adopting Kirchhoff's theory of thin shallow structures, the equilibrium equations, along with the boundary conditions, are formulated through a variational procedure ...

Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.

Stress analysis of rotational shaft with a constant angular speed using strain gradient theory [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Advanced Design and Manufacturing Technology, 2012
In classical mechanics, considering Hook’s law stress is a linear function of strain. While in strain gradient theory stress is a function of strain and strain differentials.

Size Effect Impact on the Mechanical Behavior of an Electrically Actuated Polysilicon Nanobeam based NEMS Resonator [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied and Computational Mechanics, 2017
In this paper, the dynamic response of resonating nano-beams is investigated using a strain gradient elasticity theory. A nonlinear model is obtained based on the Galerkin decomposition method to find the dynamic response of the investigated beam around ...

Gradient Schemes for Linear and Non-linear Elasticity Equations

open access: yes, 2014
The Gradient Scheme framework provides a unified analysis setting for many different families of numerical methods for diffusion equations. We show in this paper that the Gradient Scheme framework can be adapted to elasticity equations, and provides ...
