A strain gradient linear viscoelasticity theory

International Journal of Solids and Structures, 2020
Abstract In this paper, a strain gradient viscoelastic theory is proposed strictly, which can be used to describe the cross-scale mechanical behavior of the quasi-brittle advanced materials. We also expect the theory to be applied to the description for the cross-scale mechanical behavior of advanced alloy metals in linear elastic deformation cases ...

A strain-gradient theory for prestrained laminates

International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1973
Abstract A simple strain-gradient theory is developed for prestrained laminated materials consisting of thin, stiff reinforcing sheets embedded between thick, soft layers of a matrix material. The theory is used to investigate three types of instability that may occur in massive bodies: global, edge and internal buckling. The predictions for internal

Strain gradient plasticity: Theory and experiment

Acta Metallurgica et Materialia, 1994
Abstract Dislocation theory is used to invoke a strain gradient theory of rate independent plasticity. Hardening is assumed to result from the accumulation of both randomly stored and geometrically necessary dislocation. The density of the geometrically necessary dislocations scales with the gradient of plastic strain.

First strain gradient theory of thermoelasticity

International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1975
Abstract A first strain gradient theory of thermoelasticity is formulated employing a method due to Mindlin. The basic equations for linear dynamical thermoelasticity for infinitesimal motion are obtained and discussed. Wave propagation is considered and an example of a spherical thermal inclusion in an infinite body is solved and the corresponding ...

On first strain-gradient theories in linear elasticity

International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1968
Abstract This paper contains a study of the linear theory of elasticity in which the potential energy-density depends on the gradient of the strain in addition to the strain. In the first part of the paper, three forms of the theory are compared and the relations connecting the stresses in the three forms and the boundary conditions in the three ...
