Strain hardening, rate sensitivity, and gradient plasticity
2023Abstract Models of strain hardening and rate sensitivity are described. The classical model of isotropic hardening, applicable to any kind of material symmetry, is discussed, together with the modeling of the elastic-viscoplastic response of isotropic and crystalline materials.

This paper is concerned with comparison of the tensile properties of Al1100 thin film in a micro-scale to that of Al1100 sheet in a macro-scale. The material properties of Al1100 film and sheet with a thickness of 96 μm and 1 mm respectively have been investigated at strain rates ranging from 0.001 to 100 s−1. The experiments were conducted with Static

Strain rate hardening: A hidden but critical mechanism for biological composites?
Acta Biomaterialia, 2014Natural materials such as nacre, bone, collagen and spider silk boast unusual combinations of stiffness, strength and toughness. Behind this performance is a staggered microstructure, which consists of stiff and elongated inclusions embedded in a softer and more deformable matrix.

Mechanics of Time-Dependent Materials, 2018
In this paper the influence of increasing loading rates on hardening effects is analyzed for rate-dependent elastoplastic materials. The effects of different loading rates on hardening rules are discussed with regard to the constitutive behavior of strain-hardening materials in elasto/viscoplasticity.

Effect of strain rate on the work-hardening rate in high-Mn steel
Materials Science and Technology, 2017In order to investigate the effect of strain rate on the work-hardening rate in high-Mn steel, tensile tests are performed at different strain rates of 10 −1 s −1 , 10 −2 s −1

Abstract A n up-to-date approach to the phenomenon of rate sensitivity observed in f.c.c. metals is discussed. It is shown that the rate sensitivity of strain hardening, which so far has been neglected, plays an equal or even dominant role in an estimation of the total rate sensitivity.

A constitutive equation with which strain hardening, strain rate sensitivity, temperature dependence and strain rate history effect can be described covering a wide range of strain rates is proposed. To describe the strain hardening and the strain rate history effect, a new idea which takes into account the plastic work in a manner of fading memory is ...

A finite strain work-hardening theory for rate independent elasto-plasticity
International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1979Abstract A finite strain constitutive theory for a special class of isotropic, rate independent, elastic-plastic materials is proposed. The development proceeds from the assumed existence of a free energy function and the requirement that the postulate of Il'iushin be satisfied for all processes.
