Viscoplastic Modeling With Strain Rate-History Dependency

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1983
The strain rate-history effect on the plastic behavior of some classes of viscoplastic materials is incorporated into the power formula of Bodner’s model by adopting an integral-memory type equation for the “hardening” state variable. The modified model is incorporated into a finite element program.

The strain and strain rate dependence of the yield stress of copper

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2020
The plastic properties of commercially pure copper are considered. Using the strain diagrams (for strain rates of 0.002, 0.016, 150.0, 2000.0, and 13300.0 s−1) and the hardening curve for copper under static compression, the analytical dependence of copper yield stress on strain (in the range from 0 to 0.45) and strain rate (in the range from 0.002 to ...

Rate‐ and temperature‐dependent strain hardening of polycarbonate

Journal of Polymer Science Part B: Polymer Physics, 2012
AbstractThe modeling and quantification of a viscous contribution to strain hardening is discussed. Traditional strain hardening models, based on rubber‐elasticity, show serious deviations from the experimentally observed large‐strain response of glassy polymers.

A temperature and strain rate dependent strain hardening law

International Journal of Pressure Vessels and Piping, 1992
Abstract A temperature and strain rate dependent strain hardening law is proposed to describe stress-strain-temperature-strain rate relations. The formulation is purely empirical, based on experimental data of an alloy steel. Agreement between the proposed temperature-strain rate dependent strain hardening law and experimental data is very good over ...

Strain rate dependency on stress–strain relations of polypropylene

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1971
AbstractTrue constant strain rate tensile tests of polypropylene up to 2% initial strain were performed to investigate the strain rate dependency of the initial stress–strain gradient dσ/dε with the aid of “slack grip.” The experimental results fairly agree with even the simplest mechanical model analysis with three parameters, showing the conspicuous ...

Analysis of the Temperature and Strain-Rate Dependences of Strain Hardening

Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A, 2017
A classical constitutive modeling-based Ansatz for the impact of thermal activation on the stress–strain response of metallic materials is compared with the state parameter-based Kocks–Mecking model. The predicted functional dependencies suggest that, in the first approach, only the dislocation storage mechanism is a thermally activated process ...

Strain-rate dependent fracture initiation

International Journal of Fracture, 1980
The theory of linear elastic dynamic fracture mechanics for Heaviside loading of an isolated crack is employed to formulate the response to constant strain-rate loading of a single crack. Numerical integration of the Heaviside solution is shown to lead to fracture initiation stresses that are dependent upon the imposed strain rate.

Mechanical properties of trabecular bone. Dependence on strain rate

Journal of Biomechanics, 1991
The effect of strain rate (epsilon) and apparent density (rho) on stiffness (E), strength (sigma u), and ultimate strain (epsilon u) was studied in 60 human trabecular bone specimens from the proximal tibia. Testing was performed by uniaxial compression to 5% specimen strain. Six different strain rates were used: 0.0001, 0.001, 0.01, 0.1, 1, and 10 s-1.

Localization in strain-rate-dependent solids

Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering, 1991
Abstract The localization of the deformation in strain-rate-dependent solids evolves through three distinct phases. Its onset is signalled by the first deviation from a homogeneous mode of deformation, which we propose to pinpoint by means of a linear perturbation analysis. The second stage, marked by a sharp increase of the effective strain rate in ‘

Phenomenological Modelling of Rate-Dependent Plasticity for High Strain Rate Problems

Mechanics of Materials, 1988
Abstract The results of two related theoretical investigations for large-scale computations of elasto-plastic deformations at ultrahigh strain rates are summarized in this paper. The first effort concerns the development of a phenomenological constitutive model for finite deformation elasto-plasticity which includes the effects of thermal softening ...
