Strain rate and strain rate history effects on the dynamic behavior of metallic materials

International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1980
Abstract The constitutive equations for strain hardening (f.c.c. metals and alloys) and strain softening-hardening metallic materials (b.c.c. metals and alloys) have been developed. The development is within the framework of the endochronic theory of viscoplasticity. In this discussion, the intrinsic time is dependent on the plastic strain rate. The

Effect of strain rate on the electroplastic effect in Nb

Scripta Metallurgica, 1989
It has been found that the application of a high density electric current pulse during the plastic deformation of metals produces an enhancement of the deformation rate in addition to that caused by the side effects of the current such as Joule heating and the magnetic pinch effect. This additional effect has been termed an electroplastic effect (EPE).

Effect of strain rate on transient local strain variations in articular cartilage

Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials, 2019
The non-homogeneous, anisotropic material properties, and triphasic nature of articular cartilage enables diarthrodial joints to withstand large and complex physiological loading conditions. To develop biomaterials that provide similar functional properties as those found in articular cartilage, it is vital to have knowledge of the strain distributions

Compressive Strain Rate Effects of Concrete

MRS Proceedings, 1985
ABSTRACTSince good constitutive laws are required to model correctly the behaviour of concrete under impact loading, it is necessary to determine the complete stress-strain response of concrete at varying strain rates. Conflicting evidence emerges about whether the critical compressive strain (defined as the strain observed at maximum stress) increases

Experimental study on the effect of strain rate on rock acoustic emission characteristics

International Journal of Rock Mechanics And Mining Sciences, 2020
To explore the variation in rock acoustic emission (AE) characteristics with strain rate, uniaxial compression tests at different loading rates and impact loading tests were conducted on granite using a MTS322 rock mechanical test system and split ...

Effect of Thermobaric Explosive on Strain Rate

Advanced Materials Research, 2014
In order to analyze the effect of RDX-based thermobaric explosive on strain rate, the stress-strain curves with different strain rates were measured by using the Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) and resistive strain testing technology. The different strain rates were obtained by changing the length to diameter ratio (L/D=0.46~0.92) and speed of the ...

Strain Rate History Effects and Dislocation Substructure at High Strain Rates

1983
A brief review is presented of strain rate history and temperature history effects during the high strain rate deformation of metals with special emphasis on the BCC metals. Possible explanations to account for history effects are reviewed. Experiments are described in which single crystals of aluminum are deformed at various strain rates. Observations

Strain Rate Effects in Porous Materials

MRS Proceedings, 1998
ABSTRACTThe behavior of metal foams under rapid loading conditions is assessed. Dynamic loading experiments were conducted in our laboratory using a split Hopkinson pressure bar apparatus and a drop weight tester; strain rates ranged from 45 s−1 to 1200 s−1.
