Strength, plasticity, thermal stability and strain rate sensitivity of nanograined nickel with amorphous ceramic grain boundaries

, 2021
A large fraction of grain boundaries imparts high strength to nanocrystalline (NC) metals but causes the poor thermal stability of microstructures and a significant reduction of strength with increasing deformation temperature.

Extraordinary room temperature tensile ductility of laminated Ti/Al composite: Roles of anisotropy and strain rate sensitivity

International journal of plasticity, 2020
Al/Ti/Al laminated metal composites (LMCs), with layer thicknesses ≥800 μm, were fabricated via hot rolling bonding and annealing. The fabricated Al/Ti/Al LMCs displayed improved tensile ductility compared with both the single Ti and single Al layers ...

Strain hardening rate sensitivity and strain rate sensitivity in TWIP steels

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2015
Abstract TWIP steels are materials with very high strength and exceptional strain hardening capability, parameters leading to large energy absorption before failure. However, TWIP steels also exhibit reduced (often negative) strain rate sensitivity (SRS) which limits the post-necking deformation.

On rate sensitivity of f.c.c. metals, instantaneous rate sensitivity and rate sensitivity of strain hardening

Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids, 1986
Abstract A n up-to-date approach to the phenomenon of rate sensitivity observed in f.c.c. metals is discussed. It is shown that the rate sensitivity of strain hardening, which so far has been neglected, plays an equal or even dominant role in an estimation of the total rate sensitivity.

Strain rate sensitivity of the ultrastrong gradient nanocrystalline 316L stainless steel and its rate-dependent modeling at nanoscale

, 2020
We fabricate ultrastrong gradient nanocrystalline (NC) 316L stainless steel with an extremely fined grain size of 5 nm using the Ultrasonic Strain Engineering Technology (USET) at ambient temperature.

Tensile properties, strain rate sensitivity and failure mechanism of single crystal superalloys CMSX-4

Materials Science & Engineering: A, 2020
The tensile behavior of single crystal superalloys CMSX-4 was investigated under different strain rates at room temperature. The objective of this study is to identify the strain rate sensitivity and understand the damage failure mechanism by checking ...

Effects of high Mg content and processing parameters on Portevin-Le Chatelier and negative strain rate sensitivity effects in Al–Mg alloys

, 2020
Portevin-Le Chatelier (PLC) effect arises with increasing the Mg content in Al–Mg alloys. Due to the PLC effect, instability in plasticity and negative strain rate sensitivity (nSRS) are encountered during the metalworking process of the Al–Mg alloys ...

Characterization of Energy Absorption and Strain Rate Sensitivity of a Novel Elastomeric Polyurea Foam

Advanced Engineering Materials, 2020
Elastomeric polymer foams are widely used in sports and other protective padding applications due to their unique properties, such as excellent cushioning and relatively high‐energy absorption to weight ratio.

Strain rate sensitivity of polyurea coatings: Viscous and elastic contributions

Polymer testing, 2020
Polyurea, a reaction product of isocyanates and an amine blend has been reported to be highly strain rate sensitive, which responds in its own unique way when subjected to increasing strain rates.
