Silica microspheres array strain sensor
Optics Letters, 2014An optical fiber sensor based on arrays of silica microspheres is proposed. The microspheres are produced separately using a fusion splicer and then also connected in series by fusion splicing. Three different sensors are presented, differing by the number of microspheres.

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2013The objective of this research is to fabricate graphene nanopowder composites based on polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and to characterize the gauge factor of the graphene/PDMS composites for the use of strain sensors. The fabrication of graphene/PDMS composites can be accomplished by simple sonication and micro molding processes.

Strain sensor using twisted optical fibers
Optics Letters, 1984A novel sensor using twisted optical fibers is proposed to detect distributed tensile strain. This sensor converts tensile strain to optical loss. The relation between tensile strain and optical loss is modeled and experimentally confirmed for uniform tensile strain.
