On Prediction of 3d Stress State in Elastic Shell by Higher-order Shell Formulations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In this work we study the accuracy of modem higher-order shell finite element formulations in computation of 3d stress state in elastic shells. In that sense we compare three higher-order shell models: (i) with seven dislacement-like kinematic parameters,

On a damage-plasticity approach to model concrete failure

open access: yes, 2009
A damage-plasticity constitutive model for the description of fracture in plain concrete is presented. Two approaches, the local model comprising the adjustment of the softening modulus and the nonlocal model based on spatial averaging of history ...

Bioinspired Shape‐Memory Hook Fasteners With Programmable Interlocking and Silent Release

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Bioinspired hook fasteners made from epoxy shape‐memory polymers are shown to switch between strong, secure attachment and gentle, silent release when heated. By combining programmable geometry and material response, these adaptive fasteners outperform commercial systems in strength and noise control, enabling new solutions for robotics, medical ...

Crystal plasticity simulation of the effect of grain size on the fatigue behavior of polycrystalline Inconel 718

open access: yes, 2018
A microstructure-based model that accounts for the effect of grain size has been developed to study the effect of grain size on the fatigue life of Inconel 718 alloys.

Deforming glassy polystyrene: Influence of pressure, thermal history, and deformation mode on yielding and hardening [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The toughness of a polymer glass is determined by the interplay of yielding, strain softening, and strain hardening. Molecular-dynamics simulations of a typical polymer glass, atactic polystyrene, under the influence of active deformation have been ...

3D‐Printed Sulfur‐Derived Polymers With Controlled Architectures for Lithium‐Sulfur Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Rheology‐guided formulation design for direct ink writing enables the fabrication of 3D sulfur copolymer cathodes with controlled architectures for lithium‐sulfur batteries. The printed electrodes exhibit multiscale porosity and high sulfur utilization, delivering enhanced electrochemical performance compared to conventional cast electrodes.

Sustainable Catalyst‐Free PLG Networks: Recyclability, Biodegradability, and Functional Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A catalyst‐additive free covalent adaptable network is developed from star‐shaped poly(lactide‐co‐glycolide) cross‐linked with pyromellitic dianhydride, enabling internal carboxylic acid‐driven transesterification. The resulting biodegradable network exhibits mechanical robustness (Young's modulus ≈1.6 GPa), complete recyclability, rapid biodegradation

Nonlinear softening Cosserat continuum model and its application in finite element analysis for strain localization of soils

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao
An innovative approach is introduced to enhance the original soil nonlinear strain softening formula proposed by Ma et al. This formula is incorporated into the DP-MC yield criterion in the framework of Cosserat continuum, and the corresponding return ...

A New Constitutive Model for AZ31B Magnesium Alloy Sheet Deformed at Elevated Temperatures and Various Strain Rates

open access: yesHigh Temperature Materials and Processes, 2014
In this study, a new constitutive model is established for AZ31B magnesium alloy sheet at elevated temperatures and strain rates in order to describe two competing mechanisms for deformation, i.e.

Mechanoregulatory Effects of Cell‐Scale Microwells on Epithelial Cell Phenotype

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In small polycaprolactone microwells, A549 epithelial cells span well edges, in contrast to cells growing on flat substrates. Focal adhesion sites (yellow) concentrate at topographic boundaries, while cytoskeletal tension (magenta stress fibers) is transmitted to the nucleus (blue), reducing nuclear sphericity.
