RAPTOR MIGRATION ACROSS THE STRAITS OF GIBRALTAR
Ibis, 1973SummaryThe visible migration of birds of prey at Gibraltar is analysed from records kept throughout the spring passages of 1967–70 and the autumn passages of 1967–69. In early spring most visible passage is noted in the afternoons, whereas radar observations by Houghton (1970) indicate passage in the mornings.

On the origin of the Strait of Gibraltar
Sedimentary Geology, 2006Most interpretations of the Early Pliocene opening of the Strait of Gibraltar involve a tectonic process. However, no tectonic structure of this age has been unequivocally documented that could account for such a hypothesis. On the other hand, the sea-level drop of the Mediterranean during the Messinian Salinity Crisis has dramatically enhanced ...

Unity and Disunity across the Strait of Gibraltar
Medieval Encounters, 2013This chapter contextualizes the six articles that form this Special Issue by situating them in relation to trends in the study of North Africa and the Iberian Peninsula. The Iberian Peninsula and the Maghrib are both set apart as marginal or exceptional in their respective fields of European and Middle Eastern studies.

A tunnel project under the straits of Gibraltar
Tunnelling and Underground Space Technology, 1991Abstract Since 1980 Morocco and Spain have been developing studies on a fixed link across the Straits of Gibraltar. Among the linking solutions envisaged is a tunnel bored under the sea. The authors describe the general concept of such a tunnel project, bearing in mind the limitations of the site and the working constraints. Certain special questions

Internal waves in the Straits of Gibraltar
Deep Sea Research and Oceanographic Abstracts, 1975Abstract The St. Venant equations applying to flows of two layers have been used to develop a means of detecting steepening long internal waves and internal shock waves using time series data taken at a single point. The method is applied to the internal wave regime in the Straits of Gibraltar and the results help to explain the asymmetry of the ...

Short internal waves in the Strait of Gibraltar
Deep Sea Research and Oceanographic Abstracts, 1969Abstract Short large-amplitude internal waves have been investigated in the Strait of Gibraltar. A buoy system consisting basically of a moored thermistor chain has been developed to get a detailed picture of the wave trains and preceding internal fronts. The buoy system is briefly described.

A Submarine Trough near the Strait of Gibraltar
The Geographical Journal, 1932sight; but the representation improves on closer study. It is evident that the process cannot be judged by a black-and-white example: the method should be used in making a plate which is to be printed in grey or buff. Since the parallel lines which are the base of the construction are drawn at a distance apart equal to the vertical interval on the ...
