On stomatocysts of Paraphysomonas caelifrica (Stramenopiles, Paraphysomonadida)

Journal of Eukaryotic Microbiology, 2023
AbstractStomatocysts of the rare heterotrophic chrysophyte, Paraphysomonas caelifrica, were discovered from a shallow ephemeral pond Tavolgasai (“Orenburgskiy” State Nature Reserve, Orenburg Region, Russia). Morphology of stomatocysts was studied using scanning electron microscopy. Stomatocysts of P.

Phylogeny and Taxonomy of Xanthophyceae (Stramenopiles, Chromalveolata)

Protist, 2009
The stramenopile class Xanthophyceae has been variously divided into two to seven orders. Previous molecular phylogenetic analyses of the class have had limited taxon/gene sampling or have focused on particular taxa. Despite these limitations para-polyphyletic groups have been identified at different taxonomic ranks. To investigate the phylogeny of the

The brown clock: circadian rhythms in stramenopiles

Physiologia Plantarum, 2020
Circadian clocks allow organisms to anticipate environmental changes associated with the diurnal light/dark cycle. Circadian oscillators have been described in plants and green algae, cyanobacteria, animals and fungi, however, little is known about the circadian clocks of photosynthetic eukaryotes outside the green lineage.

Evolutionary Relationships among Heterokont Algae (the Autotrophic Stramenopiles) Based on Combined Analyses of Small and Large Subunit Ribosomal RNA

open access: yesProtist, 2002
In order to study the phylogenetic relationships within the stramenopiles, and particularly among the heterokont algae, we have determined complete or nearly complete large-subunit ribosomal RNA sequences for different species of raphidophytes ...

Ubiquitous distribution of helmchrome in phototactic swarmers of the stramenopiles

Protoplasma, 2015
Most swarmers (swimming cells) of the stramenopile group, ranging from unicellular protist to giant kelps (brown algae), have two heterogeneous flagella: a long anterior flagellum (AF) and a relatively shorter posterior flagellum (PF). These flagellated cells often exhibit phototaxis upon light stimulation, although the mechanism by which how the ...

In vivo Localization Studies in the Stramenopile Alga Nannochloropsis oceanica

Protist, 2015
The tiny eustigmatophyte Nannochloropsis sp. recently emerged as a promising model organism for biotechnology as it possesses a considerably high cellular oil content interesting for biodiesel production. Furthermore, the alga was shown to be genetically well accessible providing powerful tools for biotechnological engineering as well as basic research.

Characterisation of Stramenopile-specific mastigoneme proteins in Phytophthora parasitica

Protoplasma, 2018
Mastigonemes, tripartite tubular hairs on the anterior flagellum of Phytophthora zoospores, are instrumental for disease dissemination to new host plants. A previous study showed that PnMas2 was part of the tubular shaft of Phytophthora parasitica mastigonemes.

Stramenopile Microorganisms Associated with the Massive Coral Favia sp.

Journal of Eukaryotic Microbiology, 2010
ABSTRACT. The surfaces of massive corals of the genus Favia from Eilat, Red Sea, and from Heron Island, Great Barrier Reef, are covered by a layer of eukaryotic microorganisms. These microorganisms are embedded in the coral mucus and tissue. In the Gulf of Eilat, the prevalence of corals covered by patches of eukaryotic microorganisms was positively ...

Supermatrix Data Highlight the Phylogenetic Relationships of Photosynthetic Stramenopiles

Protist, 2012
Molecular data had consistently recovered monophyletic classes for the heterokont algae, however, the relationships among the classes had remained only partially resolved. Furthermore, earlier studies did not include representatives from all taxonomic classes.

Alveolates and stramenopiles in the coral reef microbenthos

Journal of Eukaryotic Microbiology, 2005
Protists are notably absent from reef biodiversity checklists, with the exception of forams. A recent comprehensive compilation for Guam listed 303 forams, which indicate the level of biodiversity, yet there were only two other protozoans and no lists for benthic microalgae.
