Identification of transcription regulation associated proteins in plants and stramenopiles [PDF]
The generation of biodiversity is tied to the evolution and re-wiring of gene regulatory networks (GRNs). One component of these GRN are transcription factors and other transcriptional regulators.

Complete plastid loss seems to be very rare among secondarily non-photosynthetic eukaryotes. Leukarachnion sp. PRA-24, an amoeboid colourless protist related to the photosynthetic algal class Synchromophyceae (Ochrophyta), is a candidate for such a case ...

Monophyly of diverse Bigyromonadea and their impact on phylogenomic relationships within stramenopiles [PDF]
Highlights: • Generation of transcriptomes from three new Pirsoniales species for the first time. • Generation of transcriptomes from four new Developea species, enriching the clade. • Phylogenomic recovery of a monophyletic Bigyromonadea: Pirsoniales

Common origin of ornithine–urea cycle in opisthokonts and stramenopiles [PDF]
AbstractEukaryotic complex phototrophs exhibit a colorful evolutionary history. At least three independent endosymbiotic events accompanied by the gene transfer from the endosymbiont to host assembled a complex genomic mosaic. Resulting patchwork may give rise to unique metabolic capabilities; on the other hand, it can also blur the reconstruction of ...

Aureochrome (AUREO) is a kind of blue light photoreceptor with both LOV and bZIP structural domains, identified only in Stramenopiles. It functions as a transcription factor that responds to blue light, playing diverse roles in the growth, development ...

Linking variation in genome size to cyst size in chrysophytes
Abstract Genome size varies tremendously across eukaryotes, which often contain far more DNA than expected from their biological complexity. To explain this paradox, selection‐based hypotheses propose that genome size evolves through selection acting on life‐history traits correlated with the phenotypic effects, independent of its genic content.

Exploring B vitamin biosynthesis and exchange in understudied marine stramenopiles and their communities [PDF]
Microbes are the dominant form of life on Earth. Environmental sequencing has revealed the extent of the diversity of microbial life in all environments, not least the ocean.

Abstract The genus Paulinella represents a rare, independent case of primary endosymbiosis, providing a unique system to study the early stages of organelle evolution. Here, we expand current understanding of primary plastid endosymbiosis through the discovery and characterization of two novel photosynthetic amoebae, Paulinella marae sp. nov.

Diversification of DIX domain-containing proteins in the SAR supergroup
Polarity establishment is crucial for development, cellular organization, and signaling in living organisms. In animals and plants, this process involves DIX domain-containing proteins (DDPs) that assemble into oligomers via head-to-tail DIX ...
