Annoyance Analysis of Population Affected By Railway Noise—EU Strategic Noise Mapping
Epidemiology, 2007Introduction: The EU member states are obliged to elaborate Strategic noise maps (SNM) till June 2007. This duty was given them by the Directive 2002/49/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 June 2002 relating to the assessment and management of environmental noise.

Rail freight transport has grown worldwide and in Brazil as well, which increases people's exposure to railway noise. A promising tool to manage it is Strategic Noise Mapping (SNM), which has advanced around the world favoring a common and more accurate calculation method that requires more accurate measurements.

One of the major environmental problems in contemporary societies is noise pollution, as it is well-known that noise adversely affects both the physiological and the psychological human health and well-being. This paper presents the development of Strategic Noise Maps and Action Plans for the "agglomeration of Piraeus", an area with >15% of the total ...

A Loosely-Coupled Platform for Urban Traffic Strategic Noise Mapping
2012Excessive traffic noise is a major environmental complaint in residential areas. This paper investigates an SOA based loosely-coupled platform for urban traffic strategic noise mapping. Service-Oriented Computing Environment (SORCER) is employed to build the highly flexible distributed platform.

Evaluating noise abatement measures using strategic noise maps
2006Noise annoyance due to transportation is widespread in industrialized countries and in urban areas in the developing countries. The European Noise Directive (END) requires an assessment of the noise situation as well as the formulation of action plans for the reduction of the number of people harmfully affected by environmental noise.

From strategic noise maps to action plan: Perspective of Spanish main roads
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2008The Direccion General de Carreteras of the Spanish Ministry of Transport is finishing the process of Strategic Noise Mapping of Spanish major roads (EGRA). The whole National road network that has been noise mapped for the first END has a length of 6.400 km round.

Strategic mapping of the ambient noise produced by road traffic, accordingly to european regulations
2008 IEEE International Conference on Automation, Quality and Testing, Robotics, 2008The changes registered worldwide with respect to the ambient quality determined people to consider, a primal objective, the protection and improvement of environmental conditions. The 2002/49/EC Directive, adopted by the European Parliament and European Union Council on 29 June 2002, settles the defining objectives of environment protection against ...

Soundscapes, social media, and big data: The next step in strategic noise mapping
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2017The current state-of-the art in noise assessment involves the development of a strategic noise map to identify areas with excessive noise levels, expressed in terms of a single time-averaged noise indicator. While noise maps yield important information regarding sound pressure levels in a particular space, they do not give any representation of the ...

Effects of quality of data and their sources in the strategic noise mapping process
2016Data requirement and data supply have paramount importance in noise mapping process and in the evaluation of outcomes. The Strategic Noise Maps (SNMs) are connected with the quality and accuracy of data which enter into modelling process. Thus, the success of this modelling will affect the Action Plans based on SNMs and cost of mitigation actions.
