A Note on Edge Waves in a Stratified Fluid

Studies in Applied Mathematics, 1970
Explicit solutions are given for edge waves on a sloping beach in an exponentially stratified fluid. The lowest mode, Stoke's edge wave, is found to be completely insensitive to the density field. The higher modes show that previous restrictions on slope angle etc., no longer apply.

Mixing Efficiency of a Stably Stratified Fluid

Boundary-Layer Meteorology, 1993
Universally valid expressions for the momentum and mass diffusion coefficients in stratified shear flows do not exist. Similarly, the effect of molecular diffusion in the mixing effciency of a stably stratified has not been investigated previously. In this paper the mixing efficiency in stably stratified flow is considered.

Gravity currents and intrusions of stratified fluids into a stratified ambient

Environmental Fluid Mechanics, 2011
We consider high-Reynolds-number Boussinesq gravity currents and intrusions systems in which both the ambient and the propagating “current” are linearly stratified. The main focus is on a current of fixed volume released from a rectangular lock; the height ratio of the fluids H, and the stratification parameter of the ambient S, are quite general.

Stratified flow with natural convection weakly stratified fluid

Proceedings of the Mavlyutov Institute of Mechanics, 2016
In work on the basis of a mathematical model based on a linear approximation, we study the formation of the layered flows with natural convection, poorly stratified inhomogeneous liquid. The regions of the parameters under which a layered structure of the flow-cell in a side heating.

Dynamics of Vortices in Rotating and Stratified Fluids

2010
The planetary background rotation and density stratification play an essential role in the dynamics of most large-scale geophysical vortices. In this chapter we will discuss some basic dynamical aspects of rotation and stratification, while focusing on elementary vortex structures. Rotation effects will be discussed in Sect.

Collapse of a homogeneous fluid mass in a stratified fluid

1969
In an experimental study of the turbulent wake behind an object moving horizontally in a stratified liquid, Schooley and Stewart [1] found that the growth of the wake is suppressed in the vertical direction as the well-mixed, nearly homogeneous fluid in the wake seeks to its own level of density.
