Stratigraphy

2016
The study of Libyan stratigraphy received a huge boost with the arrival of the oil companies and the discovery of oil in 1955. Since then enormous progress has been made in age dating based on fossils and radiometric techniques. Combined with downhole logs from thousands of wells and seismic data from thousands of kilometres of seismic lines it has ...

Stratigraphy of Cuba [PDF]

open access: possible, 2021
The lithostratigraphic units of the Triassic, Jurassic, Cretaceous, Paleogene, Neogene, and Quaternary periods participate in the geological structure of the Cuban archipelago. Precambrian rocks have been dated to singular outcrops in the southern area of Corralillo and La Teja in the provinces of Villa Clara and Matanzas, respectively.

The Stratigraphy Machine [PDF]

open access: possibleJournal of Sedimentary Research, 2021
ABSTRACTThere is a significant difference between the average sedimentation rate of a lengthy stratigraphic section spanning many millions of years, and the rate that can be calculated from any short segment within such a section, such segments typically yielding rates several orders of magnitude more rapid than the overall rate.

Stratigraphy and sequence stratigraphy of the Moscovian in the Donets basin

Tectonophysics, 1996
New results are presented on the stratigraphy based on Fusulinids and Palynomorphs and the sequence stratigraphy of the Moscovian in the Donets basin. They have been developed by comparison of our observations on cross-sections near Artemovsk and the published coal mine logs of Artemovsk Geological Survey.

Review: Stratigraphy, meta‐stratigraphy and chaos

Terra Nova, 1998
An alternative approach to stratigraphic analysis is proposed. It takes as its starting point the simple general characteristics of the stratigraphic record and the complex, chaotic behaviours of the systems that combine to generate this record. In this context, Smith’s Stratigraphy Machine (SM) concept is developed.
