We have assembled and annotated the mitochondrial genome of Tinda javana (Macquart, 1838) (a species of soldier fly) in this study. It is 15,495 bp in length, including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs), 22 transfer RNA ...

By selecting larvae for fast growth at 35°C, we obtained a new black soldier fly (BSF) strain with a faster life cycle and no fitness trade‐offs. This shows how selective breeding can improve BSF for large‐scale, sustainable production of insect protein. ABSTRACT In response to the growing demand for sustainable protein sources, insect mass rearing has

Taxonomic revision of the subfamily Stratiomyinae (Diptera: Stratiomyidae) from Korea
The soldier flies of the subfamily Stratiomyinae from Korea are treated taxonomically herein. Hitherto, only 2 genera within this subfamily, Odontomyia Meigen and Stratiomys Geoffroy, were previously recorded in Korea.

The armoured cuticle of the black soldier fly Hermetia illucens
We characterise in detail the larval and pupal cuticle of the black soldier fly Hermetia illucens L. (Diptera: Stratiomyidae), a key insect species in circular economy.

Fish predation cues induce drifting and emergence in an experimental stream mesocosm system
Abstract Predator–prey interactions are important drivers of adaptation in aquatic communities, shaping the behavior of invertebrates with cascading effects on community dynamics. Behavioral responses, such as moving with the downstream current (drift) or altering the timing of emergence, are strategies that reduce the risk of predator encounters ...

In this study, we demonstrated that the gut microbial communities of BSFL play an important role in enhancing the reduction of Salmonella. Using culturomic and in vivo tests, we isolated functional gut bacteria from the gut of BSFL that enhance the biosafety of organic waste conversion by BSFL.

The first records of the subfamily Beridinae (Diptera: Stratiomyidae) from Iran
Based on collected specimens from Arasbaran Forests during 2013, four species belonging to 3 genera of the subfamily Beridinae (Diptera; Stratiomyidae) [Actina chalybea Meigen, 1804; Beris schaposchnikowi Pleske, 1926; Beris clavipes (Linnaeus, 1767) and

Edible insects offer a sustainable protein source, requiring fewer resources than traditional livestock. Despite challenges, they have the potential to enhance food security and sustainability for a growing global population. ABSTRACT As the world faces an escalating protein crisis amid climate change, population growth, and resource scarcity, edible ...

Stress in dipteran insects mass‐reared for sterile insect technique applications
The connections between biotic and abiotic stress affecting mass‐reared dipteran insects and the associated stress and immunological responses. Numbers indicate the order in which the topics are discussed in this review. Abstract Stress may be viewed as the disturbance of homeostasis of an organism.

Where Do You Fly From? Assessing Aerial Dispersal in Temporary Rivers Using Stable Isotopes
ABSTRACT Dispersal is a crucial ecological process that facilitates gene flow and species exchange within ecosystems. In temporary rivers (TRs), dispersal is a key driver of community assembly because it determines the ability of the organisms to adapt to seasonal drying and maintain stable populations.
