Heterogeneous reaction of N2O5 with airborne TiO2 particles and its implication for stratospheric particle injection [PDF]
Injection of aerosol particles (or their precursors) into the stratosphere to scatter solar radiation back into space has been suggested as a solar-radiation management scheme for the mitigation of global warming.

Abstract Perchlorate (ClO4−) in polar ice preserves past chlorine oxidation chemistry; however, multi‐centennial Antarctic ClO4− records and the mechanisms controlling their variability remain poorly constrained. Here, we present the first 400‐year (1616−2016) ClO4− record from an Antarctic ice core, revealing two regimes separated around 1980.

Attributing the Stratospheric Impacts From the Water‐Rich Explosive Hunga Volcanic Eruption of 2022
Abstract The January 2022 Hunga volcanic eruption injected an unprecedented ∼150 Tg of water vapor (H2 ${\mathrm{H}}_{2}$O) and ∼0.4 Tg of sulfur dioxide (SO2 ${\text{SO}}_{2}$) into the stratosphere. Observational studies confirm that this perturbation triggered significant changes in stratospheric composition and dynamics.

Stratospheric transport and tropospheric sink of solar geoengineering aerosol: a Lagrangian analysis
Stratospheric aerosol injection (SAI) aims to reflect solar radiation by increasing the stratospheric aerosol burden. To understand how the background circulation influences stratospheric transport of injected particles, we use a Lagrangian trajectory ...

Driven by halon and high GWP agent phase out, perfluorohexanone is increasingly deployed in enclosures such as data centers, marine machinery spaces, and industrial process lines. This review summarizes application performance, discharge and distribution design, material compatibility, and byproduct control and maps practical gaps for large volume and ...

Research Priorities for Robust Climate Assessments in the United States
Abstract Scientific assessments play a critical role in synthesizing evidence to support evidence‐based decision‐making in many sectors and topics. For climate change, large‐scale assessments like the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the United States (U.S.) National Climate Assessment (NCA) reports help many different users—from ...

Pandemic politics—lessons for solar geoengineering
Responses to the COVID-19 emergency have exposed break-points at the interface of science, media, and policy. We summarize five lessons that should be heeded if climate change ever enters a state of emergency perceived to warrant stratospheric aerosol ...

Simultaneous Megapluvials in Southwestern North and South America During the Last Millennium
Abstract Earth's climate has experienced prolonged hydroclimatic extreme events that can manifest decadal or longer anomalies. Such events can shape ecological systems and human societies. Decadal‐scale droughts, megadroughts, occurred in southwestern North and South America (North American Southwest, NASW; South American Southwest, SASW) over the past

Inside the Fire Plume Chemical Interactions: A Review on Key Processes and Future Directions
Abstract Fire plumes are rising columns of heated air masses, consisting of gaseous and particulate matter generated by combustion, affecting air quality, climate and public health. The chemical species released undergo secondary reactions and participate in chemical and physical interactions, altering the properties of the fire plume.
