On Unease and Discomfort About the Anthropocene
Abstract The proposal for a formal inclusion of the Anthropocene as a new unit of the Geologic Time Scale (GTS) was rejected in part on the grounds that it would sit uncomfortably in the GTS. The durations of all GTS units tend to become shorter toward the present. The proposed Anthropocene epoch and Crawfordian age fit that trend comfortably.

The Anthropocene has been a powerful conceptual lens for exploring the coupling of humans and the Earth system. While fostering a rich transdisciplinary discourse, its grounding in bounded geological time and emphasis on disruption has often reinforced the nature–culture divide and tended toward a dystopian outlook.

Shallow‐marine mudstone of the Cretaceous Kaskapau Formation in the British Columbia foredeep preserves a 185 m thick record of OAE2. The organic carbon‐isotope and osmium‐isotope excursions can be correlated in detail with other Cenomanian–Turonian boundary sections around the world.

Middle to Late Pleistocene valley‐slope cambering: The interglacial basin at Wing, Rutland, England
ABSTRACT A depression in the Jurassic bedrock at Wing, Rutland (eastern England), is infilled by deposits spanning the Late Wolstonian (=Late Saalian) to Early Devensian (=Early Weichselian) substages, including the most complete Ipswichian Stage (=Eemian Stage; ~Marine Isotope Stage 5e) sequence known in Britain. This sequence forms an enclosed pocket,
